TV crime dramas
« on: March 06, 2010, 07:29:55 PM »

For a while now, I've had to tune out whenever it came on because of the kids, but I recently started watching them again late at night on DVR. I used to watch CSI quite a bit, but I recently watched a few episode of NCIS, which isn't too bad. I now watch Numb3rs and Mentalist now whenever I can as well. *goshdarn* CBS.

Started again myself, all of the above 'cept Numbers. The CSI last week with (oh crap, brain fart) insert Country Band's name later...was pretty good!

Haven't been able to get into any of the new shows for one reason or another.

I'd rank them like this , in terms of *consistently good* quality episodes

Elite tier:
Fringe (if this qualifies as a police show, not in the traditional sense but it really does kick ass)
Criminal Minds (this show is back near the top by focusing in on really disturbing cases and not so much on character backstory/drama/blah)
L+O:SVU
Southland

Good tier:
CSI:NY
NCIS (this show is going downhill fast, very hit and miss lately... although the characters are still amusing)
Cold Case

Meh tier:
CSI:LV (I thought adding Fishburne would turn this show around, but not at all.  This is very mediocre nowadays, the best episode in the last 2-3 seasons was a Star Trek convention parody.  Enough said)
L+O:CI (was much better before recent cast changes)
Bones
Numbers (was much better before all the "action" elements added the last year or so)

Crap tier:
Mentalist (honestly don't like this enough to really rank it, but the few I saw were abysmal)
CSI: Miami enough said

CopRock level of suck tier:
NCIS:LA

Although they aren't "crime procedural" type per se,
In Plain Sight and the upcoming show Justified  are looking strong as alternatives to reruns of most of the above during the year.

I've caught only a couple of the recent episodes of CSI with Fishburne. I kind of like the way they use Fishburne's "newbie" status as a way to interweave technical/scientific dialog into the plot in way that seems less "forced" than before. However, the show's definitely missing something without Petersen.

Having said that, I just saw re-run of a great episode on SpikeTV the other day. This episode featured Sidle, and Grissom didn't even make an appearance. The episode was called the "The Unusual Suspect", and it had an awesome twist ending.

I have to agree with Criminal Minds. Watching it on DVR now and this one is hard to watch. The one of the couple that abducts children.

I avoided them like the plague, but Karen likes them.  I have to admit when I would sit down and watch one I would enjoy it.

Started with the original L & O.  That theme song kicks ass.

Now she likes Bones and the one where the guy can tell if you're lying.

I haven't seen either though since I moved out here.   Sad
