... like being executive producer of a movie where you are the lead character trying to assassinate Hitler

I know the ending.  He's caught out due to the incongruity of a Third Reich officer speaking with a Yankee accent.

Don't ask me why but it worked for Robin Hood.

Tomcat is looney tunes and I do not plan to waste my washingtons on his movie.

However, since I saw a critic hammer on this and see it here again - who the feck cares whether they speak english with a 'german' accent or not?  The characters in the movie never spoke english to begin with, so when we completely change the language of the characters - does it really fecking matter if the actors fake an accent???  What gives?

Its not like a southern or new england accent where its still english - we've completely changed the language ffs.

You're much more likable in person.   :P

These guys get a billion bucks to make a movie.  How is it possible they don't possess the talent to fake an accent ffs?  Take a fecking class or something why don't you?

Robin Hood was one of the few Englishmen worth a *feces*e and Costner played him as Ray Kinsella.  Cruise as a smarmy, whinging Manhattanite Kraut is going to be just about as convincing.

I can do a killer Connery saying "It tells me that goose stepping morons like yourself should try reading books instead of burning them."

I don's get the desire for an accent either. If you want authentic, go the route The Longest Day, and Patton did and have the actors speak German with subtitles. Otherwise, give it a rest...

This story is intriguing and I wish it had been cast differently. I have long ago put Cruise in my "I just can't go to any of his movies" group.

Serving no purpose here. Leaving.

Ditto. It started with Days Of Thunder, a true exercise in budding megalomania.

'Plot, we don't need no stinking plot. We'll string a bunch of Tim Richmond stories together as vignettes, and at the end I win the Daytona 500. We'll get Nicole to play a reporter, no a BRAIN SURGEON, that's it, she's a brain surgeon, and she'll be my girlfriend.'

I think that was the last Cruise movie I saw. IIRC people actually fell asleep watching it.

C'mon, you guys didn't see A Few Good Men, The Firm, Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, or Minority Report? I enjoyed all of those movies and even Far and Away, crappy Irish accent notwithstanding.

Had to check the dates.

A Few Good Men and The Firm came out right after Days. So those would be my last. And I HATED The Firm because they completely changed the ending of the book (one of my pet peeves of any movie from a book). I remember I couldn't wait for the movie because I really liked the book.

Magnolia and Minority Report - nope.

Jerry Maguire never had me. Even at Hello. I've seen about 20 minutes of it.

I was in the perfect age group for Top Gun and thought it was cool at the time. Risky Business I liked. Same with Color of Money but really because of Newman. Rain Man was good but again he was with Dustin Hoffman.

Last one I liked was Minority Report.
might spoil a new to DVD release you haven't seen yet

A Few Good Men, The Firm, Jerry Maguire

These three movies in particular (I haven't seen the other two) all have several things in common:

GREAT directors

Even GREATER writers

Great actors in either supporting or co-starring roles.

Cruise isn't even really the guy you remember the most in any of them.

The only bright side - it may finally get Wenger to open the wallet in January.
