The Vikings will pay Favre $12 million this year and $13 million next season, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The contract does not contain performance bonuses.

Because Favre is a vested veteran, the $12 million is guaranteed for this season if he is on the opening day roster. This also applies to the $13 million 2010 deal. This year, $6 million is guaranteed for skill and injury, meaning that if he is bad during the next few weeks, the Vikings can't get out for less than $6 million.
:o

Did he threaten to stay retired until the Vikings threw enough money at him?

I don't think so. The money was always going to be around $12M guaranteed, no surprise there according to the "experts" around here.

He didn't want to go to training camp. As simple as that.

Agreed with the above.  But I'm also gullible/naive/rube enough to actually believe what Brett said in the press conference.

[paraphrase]  He said he was talking to his daughter and she said she wanted him to play again and win one more superbowl.  He said it's too late, I already told them no.  Flash forward to after pre-season game one.  Rosefail gets his ankle rolled up on, and T-Joke sucks as per usual.   Chilly called Brett.........'Dude, you really, really sure?  We could use you.'   Well my daughter did say.........What's a guy to do?  [/paraphrase]

Any way.  That's what I'm goin' with.
