Title: A chuckle
Post by: hobbit on November 04, 2008, 10:44:13 PM
I've been a Pandora user for quite a while now.  Its been playing music and logging my preferences all this time.  But just a few minutes ago - it started to play Free Bird.  WTF??

Vetoed!  It came back with some Rage Against the Machine - life is back to normal - LOL!

What's wrong with Free Bird?

Not quite fingernails on a chalkboard to me..... but close.  Over-played, tired, and annoying.  Its like aske listening to tiffany - or something like that.

But to display my inconsistencies - I'm with mfawg, 'gimme two steps' be a good tune.

I may be the only person over 40 who will turn the radio off if 'Freebird' or 'Stairway To Heaven' come on.

I've heard them both elventybillion times, and they were only good the first two or three times.

I was once in a bar in West Yellowstone, Montana. "Strohsie's" (or some variant spelling) was the name of the place. Named after the guy who owned it, Jack Strohsie (or some variant spelling) whose ass my friend and I handed to at the pool table without knowing who he was until he almost kicked us out of his bar for handing his ass to him at pool. But that's not the point.

They had a jukebox where you could get something like 25 songs for $5. The jukebox had a live version of Freebird that went on for like 29.5 minutes, or something ridiculous like that. So I, naturally, put $5 in the jukebox and selected the live version of Freebird 25 times. What can I say? I like to get my money's worth and I figured 19 hours of music for $5 was a pretty good bargain.

When the song started for the 4th time, the hulking mass of viking-conqueror-looking bartender went over and yanked the plug on the jukebox. He wouldn't even give me the $4.50 I got cheated out of.

I've always hated that song, by the way. Almost as much as I do Stairway to Heaven.

What can I say.... I run faster than a Van Zant.

Every time I hear the intro to that song, I anxiously await Warren Zevon.

And, at 57, I change stations when Freebird and Stairway to Heaven come on.
