Post by: Uisce Beatha on March 18, 2008, 09:02:14 PM
Bored and buzzed.  Hopefully this makes sense in the morning.

Rate your expected/desired improvement (or unprovement? I guess) of your 2008 golf game in terms of percentage.  Take your pick as to the standard you use.  Handicap, personal best, fairways hit, putts made, whatever.  I'm going with index as it's as good a quantifiable gauge as anything.

I'm shooting for a 25% improvement minimum.  Takes my ~16 index and drops it to a 12.  I think 40% borders on over the top optimistic (down to roughly a 10) but why not aim for lofty goals.  I'd be monumentally delighted if I can pull it off.

Torp, mark your calendar.  I want to see this thread again in November.   ;)

I'd be surprised if I get in more than 6-8 full rounds this summer, so I'm not expecting any improvement. I'll be happy if I don't end the season in worse shape than I ended the last one.

Penalty strokes.  Looking for about a 61% decrease.

Play 2/3 fewer rounds?   [sm_dontknow]

Disallowable.  No kids, the dog's potty trained, the wife works nurse's hours, DINKy sized wallet, so forth.  No excuses.

Back yard in shambles that I promised to have in decent shape by the end of summer, basement that I've been promising to re-finish since we've lived here, two bathrooms that need to be updated/remodeled, motorcycle begging to be ridden... plenty of excuses.  :sad3:

Excuses are like opinions: everyone's an *bunghole*.

Or something like that.

I thought it was "*bunghole*s are like politicians and they both need diapers."

I really don't have an expectation for improvement. I finished last year with an index of 6.7. A couple of factors leading to a belief my index will rise 1-2 strokes:

1. Job situation. No job = much less golf. New job = much less PTO (vacation).

2. Working on another goal this year.  :-X

Also factor in ~50 rounds (plus practice) a year the past three years in MN to reach my goal of single digits and I have a bit of a "what now?" question in the back of my mind.

50.  I'll either get better, or I won't.

Good topic.

I ended last year with a 9.3 index.  I think I can knock it down by 30% this year.  And I'd like to beat my 73 and shoot in the 60's for a full 18 or at least under par.

From my range sessions pre-injury to my back the Stack & Tilt had drastically improved my ballstriking especially with irons and wedges.  If I can figure out the driver swing with it and make some putts I will be much better this year.  The S&T also surprisingly helps my pitching and chipping.  So I want to be much more consistent and score in the 70's a lot more often.

I'm in the same boat as spacey but I'll chime in with something.

50% more pars per round. I don't keep a handicap or really play for score anymore, I just go out and enjoy the round. But I do tend to keep score and know I get 1 to 2 pars per round. Would like to see that go up to 2 to 4.

I think that's doable.

since i doubt i'' get in more than 10 rounds this year,  ummm, none.

I DO* however expect to finally break 80 on a real course, for once.  I'm due for one great round really.  My last 2 range sessions (spaced about 2 months apart)  have been phenomenal-- in every phase of the game.  *kiss of death*

I fully expect to improve by 20%, or better, this year. [sm_shock] Last year, i was in the 20+ range, but I finished up pretty strong. I think that 15 or 16 index is well within my capabilities. I most want to improve on my putting average. This alone, could take 4 or more strokes off my game. :) :P  8)

I finished last year with an index of 8.23 but it'll go up a couple of strokes early in the season as it always does.

I'd like to get it down to at least a 7.  That would mean I'd be under 80 on a regular basis.  In order to do that, I've got to start hitting greens.

I'd like to get my average 9 hole score down into the 50s.  Or at least the low 60s.  Currently average in the low to mid 70s.  I don't know if I'll get out enough to do that, but that plus a little less reading & a bit more backyard practice and it might be possible.

Oh sure throw physics in my face why don't you? Some of us don't have that big diploma from Faber College like you! Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Give a working man a break.

Besides they way I keep score that's about right.

Shot 87 (*) today for a differential of 14.3.  Index trending at 15.7 down from 16.2.  Should have one more round in from St. George before April 1st.

That's 3% already.  Woot!!!   ;)

* Best 18 hole score in 18 months.  I've had plenty of nines at 41-43 but haven't been able to put them together on the same day.

Nice.  What date are you able to post scores?  Up here it's not 'til like late April.

March 15th most years.  It's been half a month either direction once or twice.

I'm shooting for a 25% improvement in my index - which would make me a single digit again, for the first time in 3-4 years.

Finished last season strong and managed to get back down to 12 after balooning up to 14 last last summer. If I can get down to less than or equal to 10 this season I'd be happy since 10 is the lowest I've ever been.

It might not sound like much, but there's a huge difference between 12 and 10. You can shoot in the 80's and be a 12, but to get to 10 or less you have to start mixing in some 70-something rounds on a semi-regular basis (unless you're playing courses that are very difficult).

So, 15%+ would be great.
