Title: My daughter is going to drive me to drink (more)
Post by: Fuzzy on February 02, 2007, 01:09:37 PM
First of all, my daughter is just fine.

Fuzz's friday morning started normally. My wife left to take my youngest to pre-school and I was taking the garbage out, getting the dog in and out  and getting my oldest daughter ready for her school bus. Suddenly my phone rings at 7:35 and it's my wife, basically in tears................

At the pre-school there is a keypad at the front door for you to enter your code and unlock the door. The door and the full length window next to it are trimmed in metal - it's an industrial door. The keypad is worn out and works intermittently.  Anyway my wife is trying multiple times to get her code entered and ringing the doorbell for someone to come open the door.

Did I mention the door was trimmed in metal? Yes.....o.k......did I mention it was about 8 below? No.....o.k..... It was about 8 below. Fahrenheit.

After she tried for the third or fourth time to enter her code she turned to see my daughter with her tongue stuck on the metal trim of the door.

Before she could move, the little one decided to try and pull her tongue away from the aforementioned -8 degree F metal trim.

Ever have a cut on your head? And how much it bleeds? Apparently ripping the skin off your tongue raises the bar in this scenario.

Long story short,  I spoke with my daughter about 2 hours ago on the phone after her visit to urgent care. She told me she wasn't going to do that again.

Oh No!!!!!!
Poor little thing! Kids will be kids! :)
I remember when my brother was about four or five, he fell of the arm of the loungeroom chair, and bit right through his tounge!!!!!
The doctors stitched it up, without numbing it, or giving him anything for the pain, nothing!!!!

Not sure. I'll find out tonight. My wife was just a bit freaked by the blood. I really don't think they can do a lot.

Shame, but this is America, at least you can sue the daycare.

This is the first thing that crossed my mind after I read that she was ok, man I'm sorry Fuzz, and I'm sorry for her but it had to be a sight to see, I hope after all is said and done your wife will have a good laugh over it.

What was that classic Christmas movie where the kid was stuck to the flag pole.

I have that image in my head except it's your poor daughter.

When my oldest daughter was just learning to walk, she was taking those awkward baby steps around a coffee table and BAM! she fell and hit her chin and bit right through her tongue, but it was just barely hanging there, maybe half the tongue, anyway, rushed her to the emergency room and right into surgery, they put her in one of those papoose slings so her arms were snug, I actually had to hold her head while the doc sewed her up.

It slowed her down a bit, but she got back on the bike.

It's a funny story now, scary as hell when it happens though.

Tongue Status Update:   Good, threat level pinkish.   No salt, citrus or hot.   Peanut butter, bread, yogurt and applesauce for dinner.

She's doing fine. Talking up a storm, etc. There are two distinct spots where she lost skin. It looked like it was painful.

Don't worry for those of you who laughed. I found this a bit humorous myself once all was well and figured that others would get a kick out of it. Such is the joy of having kids running around.

Sorry to hear about your daughter.  Did that once as a kid myself, to include the old peeing on a electric fence -- wouldn't advise that one either.  (Never said I was the brightest) ;D
