Title: Annoying Coworkers
Post by: dystopia on April 18, 2007, 11:47:37 AM
A new guy is in the process of moving into the cube next to me, and I'm worried.  Every couple of hours he goes to town with some cleaning sprays and the fumes are killing the rest of us.  [sm_disgust]

I think it's just a temporary thing while he gets settled, so I haven't confronted him about it yet, but I have my fan on full blast towards his area.

The funny thing is that I bought the fan because the guy on the other side of my cube has unfathomable BO.  He lives on a boat, and only showers every couple of weeks.

Anyone else have any interesting characters in your workplace?

Whew!  I started getting a headache from the fumes, so I evacuated the office and I'm now "working" in a coffeeshop with my laptop. ;D

I should thank this guy, though, I'm usually the last person to leave the building, but the last two days, I went home early because the fumes were getting to me.

There's another guy on another floor, though, that might be the strangest coworker I've ever encountered.  I don't work with him often, but in the first meeting I'd ever attended with him present he pulled out an orange and started eating it at the conference table.  This wasn't that unusual, except after every bite he would spit the seeds on the floor, sometimes under the table, sometimes right behind him. [sm_disgust]

The second meeting with this guy was even worse.  He wears birkenstocks, which isn't that odd since I work in downtown Berkeley.  But in the middle of a meeting he busts out toenail clippers, puts one foot on the table, and starts cutting his toenails!

No one even seemed to notice (maybe they're used to the guy?), but I couldn't pay attention for the rest of the meeting, I was just trying to keep from getting hit by flying toenail clippings. [sm_disgust]

We have an admin who is an English major and consistently engages in those really annoying word games. For example; "That's a pretty risky thing to do." Her response: "Risky or risque?" My response: "STFU". Okay not really, but that's what I'm thinking.

I work with this *8==>*head who's always telling me to STFU when I try to engage him in my clever word games. Okay, not really but I bet that's what he's thinking.

There was a guy I worked with many years ago who's nickname was 'Noddy'.

He always kept a pillow under his desk, so that when he came into work he'd just crawl under his desk and go to sleep.

One day we hid his pillow, so he just went out and came back 30 mins later with a new one.

It wasn't that he was annoying, he was just very lethargic, just like those Mexican Sleeping Rabbits.

I worked with a guy who farted. Daily. Very audible.

I'm not sure if he thought we couldn't hear or if he really didn't know he was doing it. But he never once acted like it was anything unusual.

That's weird.  I don't work with any annoying people.

You don't think?

Nah.

LOL... reminds me of another guy I worked with once, who ate tins of Tuna most days.  He was putting out some wicked "silent, yet oh so deadly" beauties.  One day someone was coming past and wanted to know if we had a cat, cause it smelt like cat food....

My most annoying employee ever had a "paranoid personality" differing from the VT shooter only by a matter of degree.

He believed everyone was out to sabotage his work product and his career.  Things began ok after he was first hired, then his work product began to go downhill, and he was always getting things wrong and obviously mixed up.  Turns out, he'd label all of his stuff with a top secret code---hiding his work from others so ingeniously that even HE couldn't unscramble it.

He'd come into my office repeatedly, demanding that I install security cameras in his work space so that we could catch his demons in the act.

I have a bit of an imagination myself, and not long after this started, I began to "see" the word "POSTAL" tattooed across his forehead each time I had to meet with him.

Crazy, crazy and scary stuff.

I work with a young Russian engineer who comes to my office every day, shakes my hand and starts up a conversation, all the while his finger is planted firmly up his nose.

I hand to teach him how to "fist bump" cause I know exactly where that finger's been.

My coworkers are fairly normal now.  But I did have one coworker that was originally born in Indonesia.  She had been in the US for a little over 10 years.  She was well educated and a good friend of mine.  I got the job because of her actually.  However, she didn't understand certain work no-no's.  Every other morning she'd come in and call her parents in Indonesia.  And we are in cubes that are open at the top.  She would speak her native language very loud for maybe 15-30 minutes using the company's phone.  It was so annoying.

Our office is near Chinatown in OKC so there are many great asian food establishments.  So she would bring to her desk a bowl of soup that smelled like it had squid and god knows what else in it.  Absolutely awful stuff that she would heat up in the microwave and eat at her desk.

She was a good employee and developed some very useful programs that we still use to this day.  But she would get so defensive about her work.  In meetins people would bring up possible updates to her programs and she would get mad and storm out crying.

She was one of those people you love and hate all in the same day.  But she had a way of making work interesting.

For some reason, I prefer Gassho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gassho#G).
