I've never heard of fake wedding cakes before. Pretty clever, actually. I hate most cakes, so the wedding cake would be one of the first expenses I would look to cut corners on if I were planning a wedding.

They look as rigid as can be, too stiff, and without the form and lines that a cake should have.
A nice cake would be one of the few things I think I would actually insist upon having. But I suppose that cake decorating is rather special to me. My grandmother is quite a phenomenal artist in the area of cake decorating, and she taught my mom much of her skills. In turn, they've taught me. I haven't done much of it since junior high, though I did help with my high school grad cake. (That was a lot of fun, too. The top tier with the bride & groom on it can be a real cake the wedded couple can take home and freeze for their 1st anniversary while the rest of the cake is made of decorated styrene. The wedding guests are given pieces of sheet cake decorated in the same style as the wedding cake or can even be given small personnal-sized wedding cakes the size of large cupcakes if the bride and groom want to splurge.

Thanks for the info. We have a wedding to attend later this month. I can only hope I don't get drunk enough at the reception to take a bite out of the fake cake. The Moonwalk, however, is a given. I'm guessing when they took the cake to the back to cut it up, they supplemented it with some sheet cakes. I've also seen couples choose one flavor for the for-show cake, and a different flavor for the behind-the-scenes sheet cake(s). Much cheaper for the couple, and a bonus for the guests, in that they get to choose which type of cake they want. (I'm still against reusing fake food. That's gross.
