How am I compensated?

For the first day of service, you will be paid $12.50 for a half day and $25.00 for a full day. For additional days, you will be paid $20.00 for a half day and $40.00 for a full day. You will also be paid round trip mileage of 10 cents per mile, computed from your zip code. This amount is set by the state legislature and is considered reimbursement for your travel and other expenses. Checks are printed weekly and are mailed to you.

Maybe you'll get lucky by getting an OJ Simpson-type case.

Spanky's dad has never had jury duty. The one and only time he had a summons he had moved out of the state, so he could not serve........ :o

The lengths some people will go to ...

A lawyer friend of mine was called for grand jury duty.  Empaneled for FOUR MONTHS -- he served a half-day every Mon-Fri during that time.  (The cabal at the firm showed him ZERO slack for his drop in billable hours, too.)

He wants to serve! But for some reason....... Since his parents have moved down here 7 years ago, I think his mom has been called 3 or 4 times. Go figure....

I was put in the pool for federal jury duty last year, but I never actually served. They jerked me around for 4 months (sending notices, requiring me to request days off, changing meetings etc, but always canceling the night before when I called to find out when and where to report) and then released me from the pool. "True American patriot" is a term that gets thrown around with some abandon these days, but I believe in my case it fits.

I've gotten notices a couple of times, but when I called the night before I didn't have to show up.

Once, I got a notice along with a letter saying they were looking for jurors for a trial that would be a couple of months.  No way I could do that and got out of that trial but I still was in the pool for the run-of-the-mill stuff.  I never was needed and didn't have to show up.

I wouldn't mind trying it for a few days.
