Title: This is why I love Tiger. [Dubai Spoiler]
Post by: Seamus on February 03, 2008, 10:26:27 AM
Shoots a final round 65. When I picked up coverage this morning Els was 1 behind with 6 to go, and a very birdieable 18th hole to play.

And he can't do it, one freakin' birdie to tie, and he can't do it. Tiger has these guys beat when he's not even on the course.

62 PGA wins, 34 Euro wins, did I read somewhere that Gary Player has something near 200 worldwide wins? Tiger will pass that by the time he's fiddy.

Tiger will not only pass Snead, he'll pass Whitworth for all time Pro wins, he's gonna end up with well over 100 official PGA wins.

I know there are a lot of TW haters, but I love it, I just barely missed out on Jack in his prime so this is fun.

Check out Tiger's upper arms this year.  That guy is beginning to look like a linebacker. [sm_shock]

But sometimes (like today) it's not his fault. These guys can't step it up, choking bastards. [sm_puke]

Don't hate the player hate the game (or lack of).

Innocuous stat of the day from the announcer at Dubai.

The distance in world rankings between #1 Woods and #2 Mickelson is greater than between #2 and #1000.

Suck it beyotches!  [sm_laughing] [sm_headbang]

I didn't hear what the announcer said but anyone ranked is closer to Mickelson than Mickelson is to Eldrick.

The rankings also are interesting in showing how long it takes to actually not be ranked.

http://www.officialworldgolfranking.com/rankings/default.sps?region=world&PageCount=1

 1  Tiger Woods,  USA          19.55
 2  Phil Mickelson,  USA          8.53

1153       Steve Pate,  USA          0.03
1164       Fuzzy Zoeller,  USA          0.03
1325     Peter Jacobsen,  USA         0.01

{edit} keeping in mind that for some reason the Champions Tour guys don't get ranking points from what I understand. There's no way some of those 50+ year old guys wouldn't be ranked higher than some of the stiffs at the bottom of the World Golf Rankings.

If I'm not mistaken, Tiger's won the last four tournaments he's entered.

Not too shabby.

I think it's 8 of 9 if you count the Target tourney.  And he came in second in the one he didn't win.

The fact that this (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/columns/story?columnist=harig_bob&id=3230035) is even a subject worthy of discussion is amazing.

Gearing up for a Slam run is no surprise to Nicklaus because, well, that's what was always on his mind at this time of year, too.

"When I went into every season, that was my goal," Nicklaus said during a recent conference call to promote the Champions Skins Game later this month. "From about 1965 on, I felt like I had the ability and the potential to give it a run. I remember there were years I didn't win the Masters, and I felt like my year was shot. And that's sort of ridiculous.

"I got over that because I knew there were a lot more tournaments to be played. And more realistically, the Grand Slam was possible but not likely. And yet it was my goal to start every year. I started preparing in January for the Masters, and that's what I looked at. I think Tiger looks at in much the same way, but Tiger is probably more attuned to it because he's held all four of them at one time.

"That's a pretty lofty goal, but for a guy like Tiger, I wouldn't put it past him."
