Title: Spacey's chaps
Post by: spacey on April 06, 2008, 07:36:05 PM
 :sad3:

On a semi-related side note (was actually planning on starting a new thread, but here's as good a place as any. Please to forgive the threadjack.):

[shill] Part of the deal with the wife when I bought the bike was that I take a MSF rider safety course. I finally did it this weekend. Finished early afternoon today. I can't recommend the experience enough.

The course is aimed at beginners (like, never even seen a motorcycle before) so at first I was worried that I had totally wasted my time and money. But as it went on I started to realize how nice it was to get a ground-up recap. You don't realize how many bad habits you've picked up until you have someone pointing them out to you. Very valuable.

I went on a long ride with my dad and my brother today and was amazed at how my riding was changed. Both of them commented on it too. (Of course neither is planning on taking the course, because they're both "experts," but that's another story.)

Probably the best motorcycle-related $180 I've ever spent.[/shill]

Pics of the "gang" below. Yes, my dad and I have the same jacket. I bought mine first.  ( >:() And yes, I am wearing chaps.

Dystopia- I feel bad now for jacking this thread, if you can separate my t/j into a new thread, that'd be just super. If not, well, that's *fudge*in' golfhos, I suppose.

There's an option called Split Topic.  i've never used it before.  What would you like the new thread called?

I don't get it.

Knowing what goes on here, and the fact that a number of members have a penchant for assless chaps, and going sans pants there was the potential for a thread title to be less than savoury.. :o

Point of clarification: chaps with an ass built in are called pants.

Is there a version of chaps with ass, but no front?

Yikes!  Never mind.  After doing a Google Image search this is a bad direction.

Nice ass pirate costumes.

Personally, I think the MSF course has value even for the "expert", but what do I know?

That's what I told them. But I didn't say "Clive thinks so too," so maybe I'll try that.

The Virginia program had students ranging from newbies (in some case, who'd never even been on a bike before and couldn't work a manual transmission) to grizzled veterans riding alongside their bitches (said bitches typically belonging in the first group and in the class because said veteran wanted to "share the joy of motorcycling").  ALL learned something.  Even the jaded know-it-alls (yes, that means I took the class, too).  If they tried to skate by on expertise, they usually had trouble with one or more of the exercises.

What jacket is that?  I know I was looking at it when I was shopping, but the make/model is escaping me.  Tour Master?  Joe Rocket?

The brand is EXPEXL, which is sold (I think) directly by the manufacturer through their own dealer- motodirect.com. I would consider it a mid-level quality jacket, probably comparable to TourMaster. It lacks a few features that some of the more expensive jackets have, but is good quality leather, well constructed, and most importantly was cheap (I think I paid $80, including shipping). I also have one of their mesh jackets that is also a reasonably nice, extremely well vented summer jacket. I think it was about the same price as the leather.

You wear it much better.  Or at least less gay.

I, by the way, was the only person in the class who earned a perfect score on The Box. Later that night, my wife disagreed.

Hell, who cares about a perfect score.  I'm delighted to get participation credit.

If college taught me nothing else it was all about showing your work for the partial credit.  8)

I was a real hard tryer.
