Title: dui checkpoints in your area for the weekend?
Post by: Aske on September 01, 2007, 03:10:33 PM
what a genius way to pay cops some extra overtime.

not that I endorse or condone drunken (or otherwise impaired) driving.. but do these things even really work?

*fudge* yeah!  They have this Anoka County DUI Task Force now.  They post the "stat.s" in the monthly paper.

Unbelievable how may they stop, and haul away.  They even set up a trailer for on-sight testing/booking.
Kinda the whole "To Catch A Predator" vibe going on.

I know I don't want to run into one.  I tried all the web search I could do (with my limited interweb skillz) to try to find out where they plan to set up each weekend.  No luck.

Oh yeah, I'm with Aske.  No condone, blah, blah...

Had 'em here last weekend.  My wife volunteered to be designated driver all weekend for my son and his friends. [sm_shock]

DUI checkpoints all over the place this weekend, along with "maximum enforcement weekend".  Basically, no leeway at all, 1 MPH over the speed limit gets you a ticket.  47 people killed in traffic/DUI accidents last Labor Day, they're trying to reduce the number.  Hope it works.

I see reports of them on the news every year, but I've never run into one myself.

My wife and I ran into one last year coming back into town from the older boy's house.  No warning, no way to avoid it.  We had eaten dinner, and both of us had a couple drinks (wine for her, beer for me ;D).  We also had both dogs in the car.  The officer looked in the window, the dogs looked out, we got waved through without incident. 8)

South Metro as well stroh.

They've been making sure everyone knows that this weekend and last there was going to be increased presence on the roads.

We have them around here for the next few weeks.  School started at the local colleges and with football games and such they intensify enforcement.  I've never ran into one but I don't really go out partying late at night anymore.  I don't have a problem with them getting people off the road that are clearly over the limit and dangerous.  I do have a problem with them ruinning people's lives that are just at the limit and only arguably more dangerous than most idiots sober.

With my new found fatherhood though I'm extra cautious about driving impaired so my wife and I figure it out who's driving before hand to be safe.  So I'm not worried about being caught.  Hopefully I don't have any contraband in my car.
