Title: Anyone know anything about hand tools?
Post by: spacey on November 22, 2006, 10:18:47 PM
I drew my older brother in the spaceage family Christmas gift exchange. He's a tinner (sheet metal worker) by trade, and mentioned to me the other day that he could use a good set of screwdrivers. He's extremely picky about his tools, so I wouldn't want to insult him with anything of mediocre quality. I know my way around powertools well enough to have an idea what might be decent (he's a diehard DeWalt fan, that much I know), but know nothing about hand tools. Any suggestions? Craftsman, Husky, etc.?

Anyone?

I'm not in any trades, but I've had/used a lot of tools. (Kudos on the DeWalt, the only power tool I'll buy.  My drill-driver is over 9 years old and hasn't lost a step)

I have Husky hand tools, and like em.
As far as screw drivers: I got tired of my screw drivers disappearing all over the house, so I bought my own.

I found a package set of about 12 Stanley, they are very spottable(black and yellow, convenient)  but what I found, was the handle, half grip rubber, and the handle fit on all of them is nice.

I don't know if you can still find the same package I did(Costco), but I am very satisfied with these.

well, i know that I'm probably the ONLY person here who thinks this way,  but  I'd actually like those new OXO screwdrivers.  oxo grips rule!

that said,  generally craftsman is reknowned as ok mid-premium,  and have that whole lifetime warranty thing going for them

also,  maybe a set with a hexhead and a starhead    for those funky gadgets and occasional needs?

i dunno, ymmv
