Post by: Jules on February 02, 2007, 09:22:11 PM
I am now doing Russell's bookwork on the computer. I have to send an excel spreadsheet to the accountant, but after I attach it, and try to send it, the computer says, file has no permission, cannot locate file.
Help!!!!!!
I must also say you guys are the best computer teachers out there!!!!! ;D ;D

Are you using an e-mail client (such as outlook, outlook express, thunderbird, etc.)?  Or are you using webmail (viewing/sending e-mails through your internet service provider [ISP] online hosting)?

I don't know much about AOL specifically, but that sounds like a file attachment size issue. How big is it?

I have been trying to attach 2 separate excel spread sheets.
Should I try one at a time?

Couldn't hurt. It's kinda like when the IT guy says, "Have you rebooted it?"

You're welcome....I guess. I'm not sure I served any purpose here. Glad it worked.

A gmail account would solve that problem. I would be happy to send you an invite so you can get one if you like.

It's Google email. And let me say, once you go gmail you will never go back. Currently 3gb of space on their server so you never have to delete anything. It also handles emails like conversations. Go check it out on Google and let me know. I believe you still have to be invited to get one.

Yes and no to needing an invite.  If you want to give them your cellphone number they'll send you an invite.  I got mine through a friend as I'd rather not send any company my number if I don't have to.  I prefer hotmail over gmail, actually.  (That's shocking, I know!)  But I prefer the layout just a tad bit better.

Not as far as I know.  Since steg likes it more, maybe he knows.

aol makes everything hard, but if you want we could try to help you do the switch into Outlook Express.

Oh, one note about gmail.  It's slow loading on dial-up.  Very slow loading.  The initial pages at least.  But once you get it up, it does go fairly well.

Outlook is just an email client.

To use your Gmail e-mail account in Outlook, you must first make sure POP3 support is enabled in Gmail, and then you can add it to Outlook.

    * Log in to your Gmail account
    * At the top of any Gmail page, click Settings
    * In the Mail Settings window, click Forwarding and POP
    * In the POP Download section, select Enable POP or all mail or Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on
    * Click Save Settings.
Next, we're going to configure Outlook:
    * In Outlook, on the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts
    * Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next
    * Click POP3, and then click Next.
Under User Information, do the following:
    * In the Your Name box, type your full name the way you want it to appear to other people
    * In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail user name followed by @gmail.com
Under Server Information, do the following:
    * In the Incoming mail server (POP3) box, type pop.gmail.com
    * In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type smtp.Gmail.com
Under Logon Information, do the following:
    * In the User Name box, type your full e-mail address, including @gmail.com
    * In the Password box, type your password
    * Select the Remember password check box
Click More Settings
    * On the General tab, under Mail Account, type Gmail
    * Click the Outgoing Server tab, and then select the My outgoing server (SMTP)
    * requires authentication check box
    * Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server
    * Click the Advanced tab, and then under Server Port Numbers for both Incoming server (POP3) and Outgoing server (SMTP), select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) check boxes
    * Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number to 465
    * The Incoming server (POP3) port number should change automatically to 995 when you select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) check box
    * Click OK
    To verify that your account is working, click Test Account Settings. If there is missing or incorrect information, such as your password, you will be prompted to supply or correct it. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet.
        * Click Next, and then click Finish.

This should work.

Or just use the online interface. Works great and seems to filter out spam pretty well.
