Title: Speaking of Prince...
Post by: MFAWG on August 13, 2009, 11:56:57 AM
Can you ever see this TOO many times:

PLmZKsWRL9E

?

For the guitar geeks:

I just realized he's playing a pretty stock looking Telecaster, if not an Esquire. It's like showing up for the Indy 500 in a '63 Volkswagen and putting it on the front row.

'Whammy bar my ass. See this nob? Now listen, biaatch'.

That was impressive.

I'm betting on Telecaster, since Harrison was known to have played one from time to time. I've always fancied the Tele as something of a cowboy guitar, but some great rock guitarists have played them, including Andy Summers and Joe Strummer.

Either way I think it lends credence to the "indian not the arrow" argument.

In semi-but-not-really-related news: RIP Les Paul (http://new.music.yahoo.com/les-paul/news/guitar-legend-inventor-les-paul-dies-at-age-94--61992735)

I'd bet it's borrowed, probably from Burnette:

'Yes, Prince would like to play with you fellows. Would one of you have an instrument he could borrow for this evening?'

Everybody looks at the floor, finally Burnette says: 'I've got a '58 Tele'

'That will be fine. It's only the instrument of The One's Love, not The Love itself', LOL

The very best part is at the start of the 2d break:

Prince turns around to let somebody else 'In', and somebody plays a little lick and gives it right back...

'No, you got this one'...

Well, call me stupid:

It's a Hohner, and Prince has been using it since the very early 80's. Pretty much a stock Tele, tho'.

Apparently not only "used by" but "made famous by." Who knew?
