Title: The nickel and diming starts
Post by: 1puttpar on February 04, 2007, 01:43:50 PM
My golf club was part of Club Corp which was just sold to a private equity firm, KSL.

Their first order of business arrived with our monthly statement--

Effective March 1, anyone riding in a member owned golf cart will be charged 16.50 (the full 18 hole cart fee).

The owner of the cart pays an annual trail fee.  If I ride with him in his cart, the club extracts their pound of flesh on equipment they don't own!

I believe your only recourse is to rent the course cart and take it off some sick jumps.

Yikes!  Then what's the point of having you're own cart?  I guess they want to discourage that....

It sucks but "trail" fees are becoming more and more common.

Trail fees have been in place since the club opened, nobody objects to that.

The member who owns the cart isn't charged, (since he's paid the trail fee already) but if I (or anyone else) rides WITH him, they will be charged.  I can't believe they can make money with something they don't own!

Ah..sorry. I didn't read it close enough the first time. That does suck.

The alternative would be to charge greens fees that automatically include the cart, even if you walk.  There's plenty of courses like that.

Neither can they probably, but they are.

I've seen that before but not to that extreme.  Fort Knox is one of the few military courses that still allow private carts.  They do charge the owner a trail fee but if another rides then there is a $5 fee not the entire cost of a cart.
