Title: Something wrong with this
Post by: 1puttpar on July 22, 2008, 06:17:50 PM
Watching the Yankees play the Twinkies.  Rasner pitching well for the Yankees, gets pulled in the 6th Yankees down 2-1.  Robertson comes in, throws one pitch, inning over.  Yankees score 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.  New pitcher in the 7th.  If the Yankees wind up winning, Robertson gets the win, throwing ONE pitch!  Doesn't make sense to me.

Didn't need no stinkin' middle reliever, then set up man, then closer. 815 starts, 794 complete games, and 511 wins.

HTFU: 10 out of 25 guys being pitchers is a *goshdarn* mockery.

Interesting that this came up, because the local SportsTalk Radio guys have decided in all their  :airquotes: wisdom  :airquotes: that Eric Bedard needs to go, lest the Mariners lose 110 games, a feat they are almost certain to accomplish unless every MLB team suffers a plane crash and the top tier of triple AAA teams suffer massive bouts of salmonella from eating tainted jalapeno pepper products.

As an aside: I have to listen to these *bunghole*s all day at work, and the 10 to 1 guy is absolute proof that Sean Hannity isn't the biggest dumbass working in radio today, and the rest of the :airquotes: Talent :airquotes: isn't much better.

Their main complaint is that Bedard has himself on a 115 pitch count, and won't go past that. That's a fair complaint, really. 115 pitches is BARELY enough to get through a complete PERFECT GAME, figuring an average of 3 pitches per batter.

OTOH, Bedard's stats for this year compare favorably to his stats from previous years, so they are definitely talking out they're azzes.

The whole relief pitcher thing is definitely way out of hand, and I don't disagree that awarding a guy a win for facing one batter is asinine in the extreme.
