Okay, so I've had it on since about lap 6.  No sound though, it would drive my mom crazy for sure, so that gives me more time to ponder.

My biggest question is regarding strategies.  Are there certain drivers who are known to want to keep the pace for everyone else or who prefer to keep just off the lead?

Also, what are the advantages to an early lead?  Are there many who can keep it up?

It seems that the cars slow down by the pit stop area, is that just a television illusion?

Who's 48?  and 5, too?

Johnson and Gordon want to have the lead at some point during the day. You get 5 extra points for leading.

Other than that, not much of an advantage, but you really want to stay on the top 5 or 10 as much as possible throughout the day...

48 is the points leader Jimmie Johnson, 5 is Kyle Busch, who won yesterday and Friday..

And points are for what?  Qualifying for certain races?

They're trying to get points to win the series championship.

48 Johnson and 24 Gordon are 1 and 2, Johnson could probably lock it up with a win if Gordon finishes way back.

Series championship? ???  When or what or ? is that?

The BIG money is finishing first for the season.

Next week is the last race. 24 and 48 are the only 2 with an actual chance to win, so that's why the focus is on them. 48 has 3 wins in a row, but 24 has been in the top 5 or 10 every week as well.

So 5 points for having the lead at some point during the race.  How much is winning this race worth?

They'll pit whenever it goes yellow.

Nice save by Ragan on the trip through the infield...

There's a front piece on the car, no bug deal.

Edwards wishes his engine was bulletproof. Truex (1) will blow up eventually...

I'm sure the front of the car has many pieces... ;)

Why do you think Truex will blow up?

Yes, and it's very yummy. :D

This race only has 312 laps, and isn't it just a 1 mile track?  Maybe he'll make it this time?

Doesn't DEI stand for Dale Earnhardt Inc?  Wasn't there some to-do about Jr (or someone) switching teams?  Is there still an Earnhardt on the team?

No Earnhardts left on track. The widow Theresa owns the team...

Looks like Kenseth (17) and Johnosn (48) are the class of the field, with Gordon (24) still in the mix, but barely...

It'll all be about the pit strategy and performance...

You don't mean like that Stewart guy, do you? ;) :D

That was just one of those thoughts that hit me.  Kinda like the one this morning where I was still thinking that the race would be starting at 10 am here instead of 2pm, then - wait a second!, that was stupid.... ::)  You coulda told me I was incorrect. ;)  Oh, and on top of that, I completely forgot that the lunch was rescheduled to the 18th. lol

What does the "/////Caution" after the laps mean?

Title: Re: Yo EAGLE,...
Post by: MFAWG on November 11, 2007, 03:20:13 PM
Means the track is under a caution (yellow) flag. Drivers can't advance and have to line up behind the pace car.

Who guessed the set up right.

Go Tony GO!!@!!!!!!!

lol, neither.  However, my grandma was dozing during the race and awake for the commercials.

I remembered that you wanted a pie.  So I went to find the last one "I" made. ;) :D

But I did wait until the race was over before I went to get it.

Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on November 11, 2007, 04:27:34 PM
I would say that it was enjoyable.

I watched the whole thing pretty much, except for missing the beginning because Garrett didn't want to take a nap (my mom basically declined my suggestion of him watching cars go around in circles 'til he falls asleep with something that could be summed up as, "Um, no".), and except for when I had to raid the fridge, put away some laundry, put a story in for Chelsea, and get Garrett when he woke up.

Might have been better if I had had someone that I would like to see win, and certainly would have been very fun if he had.  Some sound would have been nice, too... lol

It was pretty cool, though. :)

Oh, and mashed potatoes make a good topping. :D

LOL, thanks for the pie.  ;D

Jimmy Johnson is one of only half a dozen guys in 50 plus years to win four in a row. It's been 9 years since the last guy did it (Jeff Gordon).

Pretty much just has to show up next week and not break anything to win.

Definitely the best car and team out there, and by a good long way.

Title: Re: Yo EAGLE,...
Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on November 11, 2007, 04:57:19 PM
Oh, you're welcome.  It was a cinch. :D

4 in a row is quite a big thing then. 8)  Have there been times of 5 in a row?

Stewart did manage 4th.

Title: Re: Yo EAGLE,...
Post by: MFAWG on November 11, 2007, 05:19:02 PM
Nobody's ever won 5 in what's referred to as 'The Modern Era', which is post 1972. It's a very real possibility,

Title: Re: Yo EAGLE,...
Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on November 11, 2007, 05:39:40 PM
Wow!  Well then, would you say that adds a little bit more to next week's race?

Title: Re: Yo EAGLE,...
Post by: MFAWG on November 11, 2007, 05:50:41 PM

It sure does add something

If you look at the list of guys who've won 4 since 1972:

Quote
Cale Yarborough
Darrell Waltrip
Dale Earnhardt
Harry Gant
Bill Elliott
Mark Martin
Jeff Gordon

and add in the pre-1972 guys who won 5 or more (Richard Petty and Bobby Allison) you're looking at some of the greatest names in ALL of motorsports history, not just NASCAR . Gant probably doesn't fall into that category, and Martin and Wallace MAY not.

4's an impressive accomplishment, 5 would seriously be history.

Title: Re: Yo EAGLE,...
Post by: E-A-G-L-E! on November 11, 2007, 06:05:47 PM
I don't see a Wallace anywhere in those that you listed.

You know, out of those 9 you listed, there's only 1 name I would have recognized before these recent threads.  So, since you mentioned history, when do classes commence? :D

Seriously, would be spectacular to have a new record down in history.

Sorry, I've got similar, parallel threads on multiple forums going.

Rusty Wallace has won 3 in a row twice, and we were discussing somewhere else how impressive that was...
