Title: Johnny Miller can eat my ass
Post by: spacey on July 18, 2007, 10:55:24 AM
Played 18 here (http://www.golfstonebridgeutah.com/) this morning with a coworker because we had free passes. Played  :airquotes: okay  :airquotes: but not great on the front nine (Creekside) but the back nine (Sagebrush) was just a train wreck. I hate that course.

On the plus side, I only lost one ball for the whole 18. I think last time I played there I lost one on damn near every hole.  :sad3:

A different taste sensation entirely.

I'd like to set this (http://www.thebridgesgolf.com/) Johnny Miller creation on fire.

Photos look nice but I don't doubt you.  Golf Digest ranks his Thanksgiving Point the best public course in Utah.  I can think of at least a half dozen courses I'd rather play.  It's nice enough I suppose but all it really does is overwhelm you with scale and vistas.  There are some great holes (#18 is fabulous) but they're few and far between IMO.

Worst golf course in NorCal, bar none. What a testament to one mans ego and desire to just take the money and hammer some holes in there.

It's not even that it's 'Hard' (The Presidio is way, way harder and a monumentally great old track) it's that it's a 'Ridiculous Joke' catering to clueless investment bankers living in Blackhawk.

The soon-to-be-released Disney movie High School Musical II was filmed on a Miller course (Entrada) in St. George.  It's a good course but not great.  I played it a few times before it went private.  Looks like the houses are built up on top of the fairways now.  That surely lessens the appeal of the course itself although when I played it there were only a few dozen homes.

Anyway, if you have youngsters you're sure to see one or more of the 500 showings of this over the coming months.  I don't know how much they'll show of the course but the setting is very nice.  Great views of a place called Snow Canyon.  Lava flows which originated from the canyon are strongly in play on the back nine of the course.

I know I'll be good for around 470.  I'll keep an eye out for the course.
