Title: Yankees/ Tigers (spoiler)
Post by: spacey on October 03, 2006, 06:20:16 PM
Wow. Bottom of the 3rd, no outs, three runs scored, one on, 0-2 count. 3-0 Yankees.

It's already getting ugly.  [sm_disgust]

Giambi hits a 2 shot homer to make it 5-0.  [sm_banghead]

A-Rod hits a single, still no outs. I can't believe Robertson is still on the mound.

Ugly inning for Detroit. They've got some work to do and they haven't looked very good offensively so far either.

damn, I was hoping for a good game to listen to on my drive home.

Also, everyone's saying it'll be an easy path to the title for the Yankees in these playoffs and I'd hate to see that happen.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Subway Series, but only if the Mets win it.  ;D

Then again, I'd much rather see Detroit stomp all over the Yankees.

Tigers come alive in the 5th. Now 5-3, two outs, runner on 2nd.

LOL. Giambi steals 2nd, doesn't do them any good but it was funny to watch that fatass pull it off.

I guess I'll need to come here to discuss baseball.  Apparently if you mention the Yankees and losing in the same sentence, you're being a poor winner.

I'm truly shocked by that thread in FGI.

Yeah, I'm happy that the Tigers won, but I wouldn't take it personally either way.  TA7 responds as though I insulted his mother.

Was I out of line?

Nah, some people just take their sports waaay to seriously. Like I said in the FGI thread, if the Yankees had one a "How'd that taste?" thread would have come up at least as quickly. Mostly I have to laugh at poor losers telling people to be better winners.  ;D

Welcome GimC!

I haven't seen that thread over there yet, but I'm not surprised.  I'm not sure when it became that way, but everyone seems to be itching for a fight these days. Both the usual thorny topics (tiger, wie, oem/component) but also innocuous topics. Even some guys that always seemed really rational have just given in and joined the fray.

Disclaimer: I'm an A's fan, so I'm glad to see a Tigers fan here for the ALCS. [sm_enguard] ;D

You're probably right.  I have definitely read some crappy posts from TA7 about the BoSox.  What I don't understand is how somebody would take it so personally, though.  He really took some liberties with my post to assume I was crapping on all of NY.  LOL.  It's a *goshdarn* game!  Nothing more!   ;D

It's good to see a place where we can speak our minds about some others in FGI.  It was a great idea to start this forum.

I can't wait to play the A's!  After the way they squashed the Twins, I think they'll give Detroit more trouble than the Yanks did.

lmao @ spaceage

The funny thing is that there are a few members that I have no idea who they are.  And it's not like this site is indexed in google or yahoo, so I doubt a random person would join.  There were several people that I contacted that didn't respond, so maybe they picked an alias while they check things out.

It's kind of fun to guess who people are, though.  Some people you can recognize almost instantly from their posting style. :)

Yeah, there's no language filter at this point.  I left it out to go along with the theme of "The Land of Do-As-You-Please" around here.

I need to look into how this feature works, though, as it might bother some people.  I think it's an option that you can enable or disable for your individual account.  That seems like the fairest way, to let people decide on their own.

Title: Re: Yankees/ Tigers (spoiler)
Post by: spacey on October 08, 2006, 09:03:51 AM
If you choose to use a language filter, I can't imagine it will bother anyone too much. On the flip side, I can't honestly understand what difference it could possibly make to someone reading the word "*feces*" vs "sh*t." I don't think there's any real way to filter out the language, only a way to filter out the ability to type the entire word. JMHO.

You know, that's a great point.  A filter only works if it can turn "*feces*" into "crap," or "damn" into "darn."  There is really no difference between "dumbass" and "dumb*ss."

If people are bothered by it, though, I have no problem filtering it myself vis-a-vis the FGI way (i.e. asterisks).

Definitely don't filter yourself here.  I think one of the things that might differentiate this place from FGI is that people should feel free to say whatever they want here including words that a few might find offensive.

The only reason that I brought it up was to look into what the forum can do just in case someone wants to join but is turned off by obcenities.  In that case, they have the filter option available.

Now I'm going to go back to watching the *goshdarn* steelers game....

Title: Re: Yankees/ Tigers (spoiler)
Post by: dystopia on October 08, 2006, 06:53:18 PM
This filter lets you pick which words you want filtered and what you want to replace it with.

For example, it's currently set to replace s.h.i.t with *feces*, while I was testing it out.  If someone here actually cares about this, I'll let them pick which words to censor and what they'd like to replace them with.

If you're curious, you can try it by unchecking:
Profile -> Look and Layout Preferences -> Leave words uncensored
