A thief trying to swipe a baby Brazilian rainbow boa from an Orland Park pet store shoved the tiny snake in his trousers before leaving Chicago Reptile House, according to authorities. At about 2 p.m. on July 25, Devon Wennlund, 18, of Downers Grove, took the month-old snake from its tank. An observant customer saw Wennlund put the animal in his pants pocket. The snake, about 12 inches long, was being sold for $165. "It's just a little thicker than a pencil," store owner Brian Potter said. After Wennlund slithered out of the Humphrey Drive store, Potter gave chase. He caught the would-be snake stealer sitting in his car. "The snake was crawling out of his pocket," Potter said. "He gave me an 'Oh, I'm an idiot' apology." more... |
