Title: Wine Ice Cream?
Post by: dystopia on March 26, 2007, 02:55:23 PM
Hmm, I'm skeptical, but I'd try it out.

CNY dairy turns wine into ice cream

Since December, this small, locally owned Oneida County dairy has taken aim at a heretofore uncorked ice cream market: the wine connoisseur. Along with its traditional 36 flavors, the company has added three for adults only - Ala Port Wine, Peachy White Zinfandel and Red Raspberry Chardonnay - each with an alcohol content of 5 percent.

One pint of this stuff, along with calories, contains the rough equivalent of a glass of wine. It won't be sold to minors.

After about two years of product development and clearing of governmental hurdles, Mercer's wine ice cream is finally being scooped up by restaurants in New York City.

Hmm...  I'm imagining that all of the flavors would end up tasting a bit like wine coolers.  But, then again, I wasn't sure about garlic ice cream, but that's pretty good.

I'd be skeptical too, however I'd give it a shot.  Maybe I'll try a wine float and see what that tastes like.

I'm trying to work out a way to get it on my new license plate but "Grape Juice" takes up too many letters.

Actually I've heard that Guinness and ice cream is not bad although I've never tried it.

Not bad at all. Definitely not something you'd want more than once in a while though, very strong/rich flavor.

After this weekend, I post a full review in the Review Anything forum at FGI.  ;D

Last night I went to a local homemade ice cream shop and bought some of the darkest chocolate ice cream I could find.  I put two scoops in a pint glass and covered with Guinness.

It was VERY good!  It will definitely be a summer dessert staple.[sm_drink]

By the way, the shop where I bought the ice cream also has a Guinness flavoured ice cream.
