Title: 5:10
Post by: Uisce Beatha on May 04, 2009, 08:51:42 PM
Twosome on a Sunday.  Front nine was 2:50.  Back nine 2:20.   Surrounded by foursomes so understandable that we'd be waiting here and there.  However...

  • We waited on every shot over 150 yards from the approach on #1 through the end of the round.
  • We watched a group two holes ahead of us move 50 yards in ten minutes with an open green in front of them.  One guy hit two shots from the rough - both of them backwards!!!  (absolutely *goshdarn* aces under other circumstances.)
  • Called the clubhouse to (very politely) suggest they do something about it or they're looking at a 5:00+ round.  They treated me as if I were a telephone pollster.
  • Saw the ranger FIVE times.  He informed us he was on top of the problem.  Ironically I had to back off a shot twice due to him meandering down the fairway toward me.

Never again.  This course is always slow and the clientele are, well, how should I put it...?   ;)

Greens are always great.  Course is interesting enough.  But that's it.  Done.

 :fear:  Yikes.

Three things:

1. You're not a telephone pollster?  ;)

B. A 2:50 front nine probably would have been enough for me to call it a day. At least at this stage of my golfing career.

iii. National standards for Rangershipdom are long overdue.

Quit whining.  You choose to live in Siberia.  Pickerel or golf - make a stand.

Where ever it was, that's just brutal.

Westridge.  On the mullet side of the tracks.  Not too far from where I lived during junior high and high school as a matter of fact.  I used to ride my dirt bike where the course is now.

Valley View can be brutally slow too.  Their problem is the weekend starters are part-timers without a clue.  I know the "regular" staff over there and they're nowhere in sight on a Sunday morning.  Fortunately I live about three miles away and get my Valley View fix on weekday mornings.  I'm lucky to live so close to such a good course.

Our match on Saturday........ 5:50 (with two extra holes).

As posted in that thread, one guy was upset he couldn't get a flag on his cart (cart path only as the fairways were soaked) - and seemed to play with a bone to pick.  VERY slow to even get out of the cart, VERY slow to decide what to do, and slow in doing it.  We walked and were waiting on this guy on every shot.

We had to let FOUR groups play through, and had one more waiting on us but unwilling to play through with just 3 holes to go.

So glad to have beaten his ass  [sm_devil] 8)

For handicapped/disabled/Casey Martin/crotchety old *fudge*er golfers. When our course was cart path only the first couple years you'd see the blue flags on some carts. Typically flying just above the driver's blue hair.

Side note: a little bird has informed me that the same poster who brought this up in this thread will soon qualify for his own cart flag.  [sm_devil]

Ah.  Got it. Thanks Fuzz.

So it's cart path only unless you have a flag flying that says your more important than anybody else.

No, I'm sure of it. I hate him.

Happy birthday hobbit.

Flights leaving daily.  $402 return.  Accomodations would be cheap (as in non-existant).  Golf at three of the best courses in the province would run about $50-$60 per round.  Your biggest expense might be beer.

Road trip!!!

I like Canada.  At least the tiny little English bit I lived in once upon a million years ago.  Hmmmmmm... might be worth a long weekend one of these days.  My wife is trying to get on part-time at Delta - for the flight benefits solely.  If that works out she and the kids will be spending half the summer in Alabama and/or Ohio with her folks.  So free travel, no family and a long weekend...

I read the first few lines and wonder if you were actuallyy referring to the playing of golf: what with comments about the front and back nine, and being in between two foursomes  :o

Uisce isn't long, but he's imaginative and likes to keep it in play.  He's played with me for hours several times, and I've always enjoyed it.
