Title: Bruce *8==>*inson vs. Ronnie James Dio
Post by: spacey on August 24, 2007, 09:04:35 PM
Since we're polling: who's the better "performance metal" vocalist? Very tough call for me, as I love them both so very, very much, but in the end it's gotta be B.D. in a squeaker.

I vote for the vertically challenged.

Well, hells bells. I didn't know 5' 6" was also considered vertically challenged.

Never saw Sabbath live.  Saw Maiden three times  including front row center stage for NotB (backing Scorpions - Blackout) so I have to give it to Bruce. I love his philosophy about performing.  Big gestures, bring that guy on row ZZ right down on stage.

In the mist dark figures move and twist.    [sm_headbang]

Definitely have a soft spot for diminutive ones though.

Easy, guys.. I put my pants on just like the rest of you - one leg at a time. Except, once my pants are on, I make gold records.

My first post was lame.

Wow! I broke the tie...cool.

Bruce wins for me.

If I'm looking at them subjectively as performers (throwing away my admitted Sabbath bias) not so sure it's even close. Bruce has a much more sense of theater, the term "play to the exit lights" seems to fit him more, he is constant motion, very visual.

Dio, not so much. Very stagnant, he has several hand gestures and motions that he constantly uses, the least of which is the warding off evil "devil" horns, and how many times do you need to see that in a concert?

The decider for me is that BD is not the key songwriter of the group and yet he takes those songs and finds a way to make them his.

I love 'em both but Bruce wins for me.

I voted for Dio simply because the D sang a song about him:

Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildebeests and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.

It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.

And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow!
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash baby.
Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter to me.
And a smaller one for KG.
Go! Go! Dio! Dio!
