Title: Weather Watch
Post by: Uisce Beatha on November 24, 2007, 01:35:56 PM
Sun . 2nd through Tues. 4th (http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USOR0023?cm_ven=LWO&cm_pla=city_page&cm_ite=10-day&site=city_page&cm_cat=rss&locid=USOR0023&par=LWO_rss)

Looking like shorts weather at this point.

[sm_fingersx] [sm_fingersx] [sm_fingersx]

My only concern is that Clive might find a way to Speedo-up and get past the starter.  [sm_shock] [sm_disgust]

All clouds and showers for the rest of November, then nothing but sun.   [sm_shock]

I don't want to push our luck but we've been incredibly lucky with this week (first weekend in Dec.).  Three trips and eight rounds under my belt with nary a drop of rain - poured at breakfast the first year and that's it.  I'd say about 50/50 on sun/clouds and I've played at least four rounds in shorts.

I just returned from *8==>*'s, where I did not buy an Under Armour ColdGear mock-T or Footjoy rain gloves.  The gods smile.

No iron slacks?

I'd only wear them on the ferrous wheel.

Well, then let me try again ...

No iron slacks?
No thanks, I switched to hybrids.

So, for fun.  What did you buy, or better yet:  WITB for the big trip?  :D

Whiskers, how 'bout you?

Nope, nothing for me.  My bag hasn't changed in over two years.  (Not so) Coincidentally, that's about when Baaab left town.  ;)

I did buy two dozen Precepts for $18 yesterday.  Plus the obligatory new glove.  Two actually.

Saving my pennies for pints [sm_drink] + bangers and mash. :hungry:

Nice price on the Precepts.   >:(  What ball?  Or do you just grab the sale Du Jour?

Laddie Extreme.

Haven't played it but there wasn't much available at a good price.  I refuse to pay for golf balls as I'm not good enough to take advantage of the better ones.  My all-time favorite cheap ball was the Maxfli Tour Revolution.  Three piece ball for a screaming good price.  When they discontinued them I bought five dozen at something like $9.  Still have a few and those will be put into play at Bandon.  Just wanted to make sure I had extras as I hate to buy emergency balls at pro shop prices.

My bag is still the same as when I took the No-Ho pledge a couple years ago, I think:

  • Driver -- KZG Gemini 460 on SK Fiber Lite Rev II, backweighted (this club will see range time but probably won't even be in the bag on-course)
  • 5-Wood -- Ashton X-1D (changed to DG S300, tipped and backweighted)(Nakashima from campy (also reshafted with DGS300) may make the trip)
  • Hybrid -- SMT Avocet 23*  [sm_disgust] on UST iRod hybrid shaft  [sm_disgust] (hate this entire stick, but what can you do?)
  • Irons -- Golfworks CER 851UM 3-PW on UST ProForce Rv2 115 stiff  [sm_hump]
  • Wedges -- Vokey 52/56/60  :punchballs:
  • Putter: Mentorsports Triad "Clive" model  [sm_bow] (OK, this is new since the Pledge)
  • Golf Pride V55 ribbed grips all around, built up  [sm_jack]
  • GripOne gloves (two-fer!)  [sm_eekdance]
  • Titleist ProV1x (4 dozen from lostgolfballs.com)  [sm_anon]
Enjoying some lower back pain, left hip bursitis or tendinitis, and my neck has been dodgy for ~3 weeks now.  I won't mention the *goshdarn* head cold I just got from the sick toddlers at our Thanksgiving.

OK, that should be enough to explain my 100+ scores.  That, and I suck at golf.

LOL.  Atta baby.

I don't mind wind.  I don't mind light rain.  I hate deluges.  As long as my feet are dry I'm good.

Last time I played Lahinch there was a 50mph wind on the first three holes.   [sm_shock]

OMG, those are some vicious winds Sunday and Monday!  Figures we'd get them the days we play Pacific Dunes (tighter course with lots of gorse) and not the Bandon Dunes day.

Mark's been working on playing the ball along the ground all year.  I, on the other hand, have been working on hitting the ball down the right hole.  I might be 0-3 on beers this time out.   :sad3:

BTW, he's giving me 10 on Pacific and 11 on Bandon.  He'll shoot no higher than 85 unless conditions are ridiculous and it's possible he'll shoot in the 70s.  It'll be tough to win the beer.  In six rounds there I think we've had one DQ (Mark) and one push.  He's won the rest if memory serves.

Hang in there boys. Have fun regardless. If you don't have the first rate rain suit, just buy one. You won't regret it.

Bring a flask.
