Title: Annual "Worst Day of the Year" Thread
Post by: Uisce Beatha on October 30, 2007, 06:40:10 PM
Tomorrow.   [sm_disgust]

I will voluntarily lock myself in my office and work all evening.  If my wife wants to hand out bribes to keep the little shiites from egging my house more power to her.  If not, I'll rest easy knowing the little brats will go straight to hell.   To the dozen lovable little tykes with innocent hearts who are disappointed at my door... tough *feces*, you'll be a pre-teen some day.

I'm not allowed to forbid my kids from partaking.  I stand alone; a latter-day William Bligh.

The only day of the year that I wish for rain, cold, snow, ice, darkness, plague, pestilence......

Well, you get the idea. :sad3:

He was warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, the fox and the innocent, chivalrous, ruthless, less than a god, more than a man. There is no measuring Uisce'Beatha's motives by ordinary standards. In the moment of his triumph, he saw the death prepared for him, yet he accepted the treachery. Can you say he did this out of a sense of justice? Whose justice, then? Remember, we speak now of the Uisce'Beatha who ordered battle drums made from his enemies' skins, the Uisce'Beatha who denied the conventions of his ducal past with a wave of the hand, saying merely: "I am the Kwisatz Haderach. That is reason enough."

While it isn't my favorite holiday I don't mind it.  Can't remember the last time I've worn a Halloween costume so I'm kind of a scrooge.  I don't participate in the stupid office haunted floor crap either.

But I'll hand out candy to the "kids".  Figure I'd rather give them candy and take the chance that they then won't *fudge* with my house.  Of course we get a mix of cute little kids with parents and teenagers obviously too old for that *feces*.  I appease the later in the name of the former I suppose.

it's my birthday, and even that doesn't lessen my dislike for the day.  :sad3:

I don't mind it at all - just purchased the bags o goodies for tomorrow evening.

I do get peeved when some 'older' ones show up with bags and no costume, but in general its a good time.  And my home has never been egged since I've lived here  ;)

I've always had some fun with it, but really was affected when one young girl made sure to thank me for being cool and participating.  I still remember that, and do what I can to be home to pass out goodies.  I just remember being a kid and having every house on our block participate and what fun it was for me and my brother.  And I'm gunna be there for these kids.

So there!  I'm cool, you're not - na na na na naaa naaa!

What he said.

Besides, my kid is still participating.  We have Karen's brother and his family over every year, and make a night out of it.

Honestly, tomorrow is cakewalk.  Hell is when Halloween falls on Sunday, and the Mo's and Heathens double dip Saturday and Sunday.

Happy Halloween everyone!

(And Happy Birthday american made!)

Any holiday that involves eating candy is A-OK in my book.  And, at least in my neighborhood, it's mostly the local kids that stop by, usually with their parents.

We don't get any kids where we live now so that part is easy. But I'll be taking the little one around to half a dozen friends houses to trick or treat. My 10 year old hooks up with some of her friends who live in a target rich (re: lots of homes with kids) area close to where we live.

It's all good.

On the plus side, Halloween does mean The Greatest Holiday Of All Time is only 3-4 weeks off.

I'm of two minds.

Both of the Blader progeny will be spending the night out, trick or treating over in other neighborhoods with friends.  So an era has clearly passed, with that melancholy feeling you get from finding yet another talent you've developed over the years is obsolete.

But I'm also not necessarily looking forward to interruptions during what should be a rare, quiet night at home alone with the bride, which we might otherwise spend engaging in wild acts of copulation if not for all the doorbell ringing and so forth.

And so does the turkey.

Our office used to go all out for Halloween.  People would decorate their offices and dress up.  Nothing like that today, and I'm relieved.

I think I'm getting old.  10 years ago I was starting a different job and my first day at work happened to fall on Halloween.  I decided to show up in costume anyway, but when I got there I was the only one.
