Title: Firefox 2 and IE7
Post by: dystopia on October 26, 2006, 01:44:11 PM
I'm downloading both of these browsers now to my secondary machine to do some testing.

Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with either of them (extensions not working or sites behaving oddly)?

Check out the IE release notes -- even some Microsoft products don't play well with IE7.  I'm sticking with IE6 until they shake out some bugs.

I am curious to try out the new Firefox, though.  I've been sticking with Netscape mostly for the better tabbing, but I could be convinced to switch.

I'm trying out Firefox 2.0 right now.  It looks like they've fixed my big complaint -- they put 'close window' buttons on each tab individually.  Awesome!

It's not the prettiest GUI, but it works pretty smoothly.

Hmm, ie7 failed to install properly. >:(  Why am I not surprised.

FF2 was smooth.  I'm going to install it on my main machine next.

IE7 betas were BRUTAL in butchering CSS2.  Not feeling all warm and fuzzy that golden master is going to be much better.

I've been dreading the day.    [sm_disgust]

Any initial findings on FF2? I'm waiting to download until I hear enough positive comments.

My only complaint i have with FF is that certain sites don't load right.  Tab browsing is cool but it's just faster to open up separate windows and alt-tab between them.

I have no problems with IE.

I used Firefox before, so the usual Firefox problems still occur with Firefox 2 -- mainly that some sites don't recognize Firefox.  There are fewer and fewer of those, but you gotta keep a backup browser around for those.

They improved the tab browsing, and I was really impressed with the Flash plug-in download.  Maybe I haven't installed a plug-in in a while or something, but it was super smooth.  I went to a page that happened to have Flash, so it showed me a link to install the plug-in.  I clicked it, and it downloaded and installed and played the Flash with no other input from me, and without me having to close down and re-open my browser.  Nice.   I'm hoping all plug-ins are that easy.

OK, I think I'm dropping Firefox for normal browsing.  My other favorite forum doesn't work well with Firefox --  and, no, it's not THAT other forum.

Back to Netscape it is.
