[sm_jack] RSL averaged 12,689 in paid attendance last year in a stadium built for football, having no superstars and with a team that missed the playoffs. 15K isn't so unreal in a brand new stadium (one with real grass even), having Freddie Adu on the roster and the team definitely improving. I've never really bought in to the concept of ripping off names from top clubs around the world. At least we have lofty pretensions here in SLC. Madrid is about as prestigious a club as exists in the world. God forbid, we might have ended up Chivas Salt Lake. [sm_devil] ;) The team's getting better. It seems to me, by choosing "Real SL" you are equating yourself with Real Madrid, which is foolish. I thought "Salt Lake 04" would have been pretty cool. Even though it could relate to Schalka 04, they are not as well none around these here parts.

Bump profits to #2 and I think you have it ;). We have a good soccer market here, I think it would work. ...but I was actually referring to a place to play. Nothing around here would suit an MLS team. The field that SLU plays at just isn't up to the task - perhaps a partnership with the University for a new facility would work though. The new stadium will help a lot. It's in the suburbs and an affluent one at that. Soccer mom central. It'll even have a grass pitch. :P The team needs to start performing though. :'( |
