Title: Oh, That's Just Nice.
Post by: stroh on January 09, 2007, 09:01:33 PM
"Hey guys!  Sorry, weird call.  We were just were out to eat, and were gonna use the 'Sammy's' gift card you gave us for Christmas.  They said it wasn't activated.  Just wondering if you kept the receipt?  (audible) LOL  Just let us know.  Thanks."

(voicemail from the inlaws)
 >:( >:( >:( >:(

We have the receipt.  The sad part is, Karen stood in line 20 freakin' minutes waiting for the dang girl to write the thing out and "ring" it up!!!!

I know it's not our fault, but.......... [sm_anon] [sm_anon] [sm_banghead] [sm_banghead]

That's what pisses me off!

They are struggling financially. So we get them this to go out and have a nice dinner.

What does it turn into?  We (essentially) send them out on a buy on, get one free.

(Like them coupons where you play golf free, when you bring 3 guys that pay.)

The whole thing just smacks of: *fudge*in' *feces*! what the *fudge*!  Who's it gonna happen to?  Us/them.  Whatever! >:(

I don't feel it's worth workin' them for 10%, it's just another example of bad things/good people. :sad3:

Feel like a *8==>* with ears.

Are you saying Karen stayed in line 20 minutes for the initial purchase or to have them activate it again?

Oh, I ain't gonna bother waiting for your reply, stroh.  I was just thinking that if you haven't yet had it activated again that you could just give your in-laws the amount the gift card was supposed to be.

The initial purchase.

Of all our "running around" that day, it stood out.  Maddie and I waited in the car while she ran in.  Almost 1/2 an hour later she came out (for a gift card mind you).......  all she said was "I can't believe how long that took her".

Christmas spirit, and all.....

That's just not right.  Hate to hear of the problem.  Perhaps next year small bills in a plain envelope would be the best present.

What a sucker!!  LOL!!  You just fell for the oldest trick in the Official In-Law/Grandparent Operations Manual, 2nd edition, Harper Collins.

Chapt 2:  Stretching Gift Value, page 37:

Quote
You can immediately DOUBLE the value of any giftcard you receive from your children by using it to purchase a nice meal, and then calling to inform them that the restaurant did not accept the giftcard.  Your children, especially any guilty-minded son-in-laws, will forward a reimbursement for your expense.  To TRIPLE the value of your gift card, use it to purchase a valuable commodity, perform the same 'did not accept card' call to the children, and then sell the item on eBay or at your next yardsale.

Damnit!  >:( >:(

Ya'll take note, what a good moderator brings to a forum.  Without him, I would have finished that 3rd wire transfer for my B.I.L.'s emergency recreational beverage replenishment system.  What ever that is?

No we can just settle this like men.  With a drive by shooting.

Stroh, I really feel bad for you!!!! It is hard for a grown man to find out off Blader, that his in-law's have been taking him for a fool!!!! [sm_shock]  I suppose you are now thinking of all the other incidents that have happened over the years!!!!!

Well, now that you mention it, I did invest with him pretty heavily on an offshore snipe reserve.  Long term investment he said.  In fact how did he put it?  This is so long term, you should forget you're doing this.  I hope it pans out for his sake, though because he had no money to put up for it.  We used all mine.

Yeah, but since he can drive and shoot, it's really a one man operation.

If we learned nothing else from that tale, at least we should have taken away from it that it's really hard to hit anything when you're multi-tasking like that.

They don't call it "shotgun" for nothing.

As long as at least one hand is on the wheel, it's good.

I think it was the steering column.

I would prefer not to dwell any longer on that.
