His middle 70's albums Stranglehold, Free For All (with Meatloaf on vocals on 2 or 3 tracks) and Cat Scratch Fever was what was happening in the era JUST before Punk broke. On edit: I don't think he's 'Overrated', except maybe in light of his recent foibles. He's a decent rock guitarist, not Page or Hendrix for sure, but still a good solid player. I've always liked Ted's in your face brutal honesty, from a distance, I've sat near on an interview and he's actually a really funny guy, but like gleek said he leans way too far to the right for me.
