Sgt Colwell said the "brave" behaviour of the passengers and driver probably prevented anyone else from being hurt.

Yeah, 'cuz they ran real fast like. [sm_dontknow]

They were smart (and yes, brave) enough to keep the guy inside the bus 'til the cops got there.

I'd have been most of the way to Newfoundland....

I'm no expert but wouldn't cutting off a guy's head with a knife kinda keep one occupied until the Mounties arrived?

He had enough time to walk to the front of the bus, show everybody outside the head and then try to start the bus.

The driver, a trucker, and a passenger also went back inside the bus to see if they could help, but the guy went after them as well.

It be Canada, so I'm guessing no one had a firearm handy.

Unfortunately, no Figgers were passing by to square the situation away with a couple of Judo Chops and a pistol shot right between the eyes when coming face to face with an armed madman with a butcher knife, after which they could go to the nearest range and hit 200 yard 34.5 inch 6 irons.

What I've gotten from reading about this:

Guy attacks guy in back of said bus, driver stops bus and gets everybody the *fudge* off.

Driver, passenger and passerby go back into bus where they find the guy hacking off the victims head. Guy starts after them. They bail, close the front door, block all the exits with HAND TOOLS and wait for the fuzz to arrive.

Guy brings head to front of bus and shows it to them, then tries to start bus. Passenger disables bus, and a several hour standoff ensues.

Yeah, that actually is brave: There's a *goshdarn* maniac in the bus, and these folks have the wherewithal to make sure he stays in the bus AND the bus stays where it's at, rather than hightail it the *fudge* out of there in the general direction of Greenland, which is probably what I would have done.

Then again, I'm no longer a FIGGER.

Some dude hacks off another dude's head and then shows it to me, ala Benjamin Willard, and I'm hightailing it just as fast as I can given the massive load I've just dropped in my boxer briefs. Props to the canucks for at least having the intestinal fortitude to keep the guy in one place until the Mounties arrived.

Clearly you're not a hand tool bearing Canadian with requisite diesel engine knowledge.

But we love you anyway.

*humid grotto*.

Well, as one of those 'figgers' (your poor choice of moniker and penchant for name calling is, once again, over the top  ::) ) that has in the past posted about getting involved when someone is doing bad *feces*, allow me to retort.

I do not lavishly boast about things that are impossible.  I have had 10 years of training after all.  I stand by the comments I have made in the past and now - but those comments never involved a butcher knife, that changes the equation.  10 years of training or not - success is far from certain and the knife certainly changes the denominator.  In this case I cannot say that I would have stopped the guy, or even tried.

Obviously a bus full of people could have easily subdued the guy - but it takes the first person to step up before anyone else typically helps.  Seems no one wanted to take the risk of being that first guy, and I will cast no blame on their decision.  Would I have been that first guy?  Cannot really answer that unless you're in the situation.  I would like to think I would have been, but, again, the knife is a danger multiplier and I may have been outside with the rest.

I will say my shorts would have been clean and I would have stuck around to make sure he didn't start in on others.  How's that for hitting a 200 yard 6 iron?  [sm_devil]

EDIT:  Oh, and without the knife - that dude would have been my bitch!  Just sayin.

Depends on the length of the 6i.

*fudge* this. If I call you a name, you'll know it.
