BEIJING - A knife-wielding Chinese man attacked two relatives of a coach for the U.S. Olympic men's volleyball team at a tourist site in Beijing, killing one and injuring the other on the first day of the Olympics on Saturday, team officials and state media said. The man then committed suicide by throwing himself from the second story of the site, the 13th century Drum Tower just five miles from the main Olympics site.

Seibel said the two Americans who were attacked were not wearing anything that would have identified them as Americans or part of the U.S. team. He could not name the coach.

"They were not wearing apparel or anything that would have specifically identified them as being members of our delegation" or as Americans, he told The Associated Press.

Draw your own conclusions.

He said it is "too early to say" whether the U.S. delegation or athletes will require additional security.

I sure hope this extreme is not needed...but.

Maybe the tower has a moat full of laser wearing killer sharks?

Yesterday afternoon outside the Drum Tower, a popular tourist attraction surrounded by traditional alley-style hutong dwellings, some residents and shopkeepers said they heard that the Chinese man may have gotten into an argument with the American before stabbing him and that he never jumped outside the tower.

Others said they heard about a suicidal jump. Because the alleged attack took place inside the tower, none of the local residents or store owners said they witnessed anything that triggered the incident other than ambulances with sirens arriving around 12:30 p.m.

"When I arrived to work at noon, nothing had happened," said a cleaning lady at a linen store.

Many neighbors declined to discuss anything about what they know or saw, amid the swarm of international media that arrived at the scene within a couple of hours of the alleged incident.

"We know some things but we can't talk," said one resident. Throughout this site, police officers were stationed, as well as neighborhood security volunteers who seemed to be watching closely who was talking to reporters.

This is a pretty major story here. Bachman is about as recognizable a name as there is in the Minneapolis area.

A Minnesota business executive was killed and his wife critically wounded in a knife attack at a popular tourist site in downtown Beijing Saturday afternoon.

Todd Bachman, 62, the CEO of Bachman's garden centers, died and Barbara Bachman, also 62, was hospitalized the intensive care unit at Peking Union Medical College Hospital with life-threatening injuries, after an apparently deranged man attacked them and their Chinese guide, who was also wounded.

Quote
Todd Bachman was the fourth-generation family member to head the 123-year-old business, and has worked at the company since 1968. He and his cousins in senior management oversee the company's 1,300 employees at 29 locations throughout the Twin Cities area. The company, a Twin Cities institution, began in 1885 as a vegetable farm in south Minneapolis and now includes full-service floral, gift and garden and landscape centers.

Is Michelle part of that family, or just share the same name?
