Title: Weekend in sport television [SPOILER]
Post by: Uisce Beatha on August 03, 2007, 07:53:29 PM
Have to work Saturday so haven't a clue.

But Sunday...

  • Bright and early, Community Shield with United v. Chelsea.  No preseason friendly this one.
  • Golf is shaping up.  Could be good.
  • Steelers v. Saints.  Unfortunately, "Willie won't go."
  • Chit load of X Games including Legends of Vert.  Tons of potential there.

Too bloody hot to be outside anyway.   :drama:

For those so inclined, there's a free month of Setanta on Dish Network - Channel 406.

England kicking the *feces* out of Wales in a rugby friendly (I think) right now.

It's going to be $14.99 a month though.  Sport at pr0n prices.  [sm_shock]

I just saw that my Sports Classics channel (comcast 401) is replaying a Scotland-England 1979 soccer match today. What with the all day hydro races tomorrow this IS shaping up nicely.

United 1 - 1 Chelsea

So far so good... that's like both the bollocks losing or at least not being good enough to win.   [sm_devil]

United win on PKs 3-0.  Van der Sar guesses correct 3x3.  Nice work indeed.

Some thoughts...
  • I guess I just miss those matches where Lampard plays well enough to start for England.  I don't see how he even starts for Chelsea.   ???
  • Ronaldo sold his soul to the devil for magic boots.
  • Giggs rules.
  • Ben Haim was very impressive.  It'll be interesting to see who starts on that defense.
  • Ref blew a lot of calls including a bad yellow on Rooney.  Ah well, he deserves a few make-up cards.

Golf is boring.  Runaway display by Tiger and major fold by Rory.  Plus I didn't know they teed off early and knew the result before the last group finished the front nine.   [sm_disgust]

No time or interest for X Games today.  Dunno why. :ball:

GO STEELERS!!!

Not missing anything, really.

Is it just me, or does Hawk come across like a complete dork?

Yeah, he's a nerd.  I'm surprised the tattooed, mega-pierced, blood drinking, scions of Satan making up the rest of the sport tolerate him.  Maybe he knows where to score righteous doobage or something.

Actually, if you hang around skate message boards, Hawk AND the X Games are pretty much irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

It may be the ultimate participant driven sport, blood drinking scions of Satan and all.

There's a line in Peralta's documentary:

'Somewhere along the line, the participants decided it would be about the process, not just the end results'

2 weeks ago over at our local park, we had a little kid that spent a full 30 minutes trying to go up a little bank and back down 'fakie', and when he finally did it about 10 of us started clapping.

That kid worked hard, and he earned it...

Yaa, yeah they do. Local Benji Galloway was there. One day I was watching him skate the halfpipe at SkateBarn West while talking on his cellphone. Not the mini ramp, the full on 8 foot half pipe.

Amen brotha!

I said the same thing last season.  He didn't do too much this match, but usually he's shooting from all over the pitch and not getting them on goal or even challenging the keeper.  The fact that he makes one every 5-10 games, doesn't make him good - it still makes him inaccurate as hell.  He'd be better off dishing to others - instead of one every 5-10 games they may get a goal every damn match with all the ones he wastes.

On another note, Wright-Phillips finally got himself a regular starting role in my mind.  He made things happen.
