Post by: Teed on November 02, 2006, 04:39:59 AM
I'm going w/ West Virginia.

it would be an interesting contest if Bush were there, but I think this is a wipeout.  slaton + white  = 400 rushing yards.

I think that West Virginia wins tonight, but I'm rooting for an outcome that causes the most trouble for the BCS.  I'm just not sure what scenario in the Big East creates the biggest BCS controversy.

I thought of this scenerio yesterday, tell me what you think.

 - WV wins tonight.
 - Michigan beats Ohio State in a couple of weeks
 - BCS matches undefeated  Michigan against Ohio State (1 loss) for National Champ game.
- Ohio State win BCS champ game
- WV wins their bowl game and remains undefeated.

Who's your champ???

i know my thinking is usually screwed up... but...
Michigan.  Winning in the 'Shoe (2 losses in last 5 years, 1 during the rebuilding year..., then to last years NC  texas squad) is far more impressive than at a neutral site.  Enough to outweigh winning in January (to tie the series).

if* louisville had bush through the year, i would say  WV winning out would be impressive enough to claim the title, especially if louisville beat rutgers also.

This is where I get confused and why I still can't decide if I want to root for WVU or Louisville tonight.

In your scenario, if Ohio State loses at home to Michigan, would the BCS still rank Ohio State (with 1 loss) ahead of an undefeated WVU because of their schedule?

probably so.
IIRC,
bcs computers have   WV  sitting @ 11, 5, 12, 14, 16, 13 ... average 13 or so

playing louisville will help, for now.   but  if louisville drops another game (besides WV)  WV will certainly plummet back again to middle of the pack in the computer component....

Yeah, you're probably right.

I was trying to come up with a scenario with only Ohio State and Rutgers being unbeaten and then the controversy involving all the 1-loss teams and who belongs in the title game.

But I think Teed's scenario is better.  I don't see a champion there.  I don't think you could even get away with declaring co-champions in that scenario.

Or at least WV would share w/ Michigan.

Personnally,

I would think Ohio State would be crowned co-champ (w/U of L) b/c of strength of schedule and beating Michigan when it counts.

Ha, that'll teach me to follow a game online instead of watching it on tv.

I'm still at work, so on espn gamecast, I thought it was one spectacular offensive play after another. ;D

Far from it.

No defense at all so far during this game.  At this point neither one of these teams deserves a national championship shot.

WVU is a one dimensional team that earns status by beating up on patsies.  In Louisville they finally faced a legitimately good team, possibly the only one on their schedule this year (Rutgers is still a bit of an unknown).  Other than than that, they play no one of true substance.

Last years Sugar Bowl was a fluke. WVU just isn't as good as they would have you think they are.  I think they lose to any of the current top 10 teams, maybe any of the top 15.
