the driver was 70-80 and didn't seem to even be 'processing' the severity of what he had just done. he wanted to get in his car and drive away after the 1st police guy questioned him .... just another example of how the us lags behind the rest of the 1st world in forcing old people into yearly driver review tests. Essentially if the plate contains 3 numbers or less, watch out.

I'm not sure what the legalities might be but they definitely let the old ones behind the wheel when perhaps they shouldn't be. Kids are worse. According to Wikipedia, average life expectancies for US Americans are: 75.6 years for males and 80.8 years for females. Perhaps that is how they should set the maximum driving age. [sm_shock] You're right and they should be tested yearly. I absolutely agree. But I think putting kids behind the wheel is something that needs a bit more attention. It's not a Constitutional right so I'd have no problem granting the privilege based on a combination of acceptable school attendance, lack of a juvenile criminal record and specifically a clean driving record. Before my job change I used to drive by a high school every day just before school started. I'd see at least three wrecks a week. Sometimes they looked as if someone didn't fare too well. I agree kids don't tend to run people down in the 'geriatrics out of control' scenario - but they do drive crazy, they do crash and they do die and kill their friends.
