Title: Best Buy - bait and switch scam?
Post by: dystopia on February 11, 2007, 12:17:09 PM
If this is true, this is *fudge*ed up.

Click & Switch: Best Buy's double-secret web site

According to the article, "Hammer said he started to argue with the salesman, who attempted to prove his point by logging on to a computer that had a giant monitor to show that there was no longer a sale." However, after asking to navigate the web on his own, Mr. Hammer went to bestbuy.com and -- you guessed it -- found the sale price.
....
A consumer editor for the Hartford Courant went through this same process, and had similar results, leading him to call several flabbergasted Best Buy administrators and surmise that, in fact, Best Buy has a secret Intranet for employees to cheat the hardworking people of America. Or, something like that.

He said Best Buy's policy is to honor the lowest price, whether from its Internet site or from a competitor.

You guys are operating under the assumption that store managers and staff have any *goshdarn* idea what price is posted on the web site, and I'm here to assure you that they do not in the majority of cases.

FWIW, many large chains (if not most) are moving to 'Target Pricing', ie:

An item may be 10.00 bucks at one store, and 12.00 at another store, even if it's just a few miles away...
