Title: Do you have a standard testing routine when evaluating clubs? Post by: dystopia on November 05, 2006, 10:26:43 AM [I've asked this before elsewhere, but this is a different group, and it's a topic I find interesting among club hos.]
For your personal use (not when fitting others), do you have a standard testing routine that a new club goes through to determine whether it will make it into the bag? For example, when you receive or build a new club, do you just go to the range or launch monitor and hit 10 shots of the new club vs. 10 shots of the current #1 and compare accuracy, distance, feel, etc? Or do you generally give a club multiple range sessions and a few rounds to properly evaluate it. Or do you know within a few swings whether a club is for you? I see a lot of turnover of equipment on various forums, so I was just wondering about everyone's evaluation methods. Title: Re: Do you have a standard testing routine when evaluating clubs? Post by: MP on November 07, 2006, 10:22:34 PM If I go to a golf store I see a wall of iron sets, I always grab the 7 iron, and give it a waggle. I can't explain it but I just know if i like it or not just by the waggle. The other determining factor in an iron is the profile. I like blades so I always go for a really thin profile and a small head. Titleists and Mizunos never fail the waggle. (except the mizuno mx line). Currently playing Dynacraft 1030 blades which have a very similar profile to the Titleist 690mb's.
Drivers are a different story. I gotta hit the ball with it, and it's hard to tell cuz I hate OEM shafts. I still really like the 983E/Ald NV combo. Might also add that it's been years since I've committed adultery against my SMT. ;D Had a short stint with BOM though ;) Title: Re: Do you have a standard testing routine when evaluating clubs? Post by: Aske on November 08, 2006, 11:28:32 AM im similar to MP. I can tell right away if I would* like an iron, just by grabbing the 3i, the 7i, and the 10i (ok, PW) of the set and making a visual inspection.
drivers, just gotta give em some whacks 8) Title: Re: Do you have a standard testing routine when evaluating clubs? Post by: Salamander on November 15, 2006, 07:28:35 AM Land it down to see if the length is good for me, wiggle some, hit a couple of 7 irons, if i like it then i hit the 4.
