Title: Nike Unitized putters
Post by: spacey on December 09, 2006, 01:06:55 PM
I saw one in person for the first time yesterday. Nice looking, but I didn't like the feel. Supposedly the unitized shaft provides better feedback, but it felt dead to me and pushed everything. Not to mention a broken shaft and you're SOL. At least they're super expensive. Anyone else seen/ tried them?

I saw them a week ago and putted a few balls with the Techno.  It looked better in person than the pictures.  Wasn't as big and funky looking in person.

The store where I tried it didn't have the best putting green, but I didn't think anything special about it.  The Techno is the center-shafted mallet, and I expected it to feel extremely stable like an M5K, Futura, Big Ben or Craz-E, but I wasn't that impressed.

IMO, sound has more to do with the perception of feel than the "feedback" that you might feel in your hands. Therefore, the whole concept is bunk unless the unitized shaft somehow transmits sound differently than a regular shaft. Having said that, I think the putter is milled very nicely and is obviously of high quality construction.

Oh!  That set reminds me of my grandmother's old set.  I think it's from the 60's, but they could be older.  [sm_dontknow] I don't know how she used it.  She was about as tall as me, and I have to choke down on them enough that it gets in the way of swinging.
