Title: Year of the Boar
Post by: spacey on February 17, 2007, 04:37:31 PM
I'm off to my brother's place for a Chinese New Year party. (His fiancee (suck it Chin) is from Hong Kong and her sister's family emigrated about 3 years ago.) It tends to be busy, loud, and most of the conversations are completely unintelligible to non Cantonese speakers.

By late evening most of the casual guests are gone and the Chinese people adjourn to the basement for all night rounds of Mahjong (having watched them play it looks more like work than fun, very serious business), leaving my family upstairs to relax and to drink.

Remy Martin XO tends to flow freely at these events (apparently it's widely appreciated among people from Hong Kong), so I'll tip back a glass or two for the golfhos crowd. Happy New Year bitches.  [sm_beertoast]

I don't know. I've been specifically instructed to not bring anything, so I'll drink what's offered. If there's bourbon present, it's more likely to be Maker's Mark. Free is free, so I won't complain.

I don't understand the question.

[Still here. Apparently I misunderstood when Laura said, "I'm ready" that she actually was, in fact, ready.]

Apologize for what? Didn't seem pissy to me.  [sm_dontknow]

Oh well, bless you my child and go in peace.

Unless, it's Louis XIII. Then you can add a zero to that. Street price: $1600 per bottle.

Here's one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Louis-XIII-Remy-Martin-Grande-Champagne-Cognac-Baccarat_W0QQitemZ160083692236QQihZ006QQcategoryZ369QQcmdZViewItem) on eBay.

Sorry.  Just had the kind of day where I didn't meet any expectations at home. :'(

That, I guess, put me into the pissy mood.

BTW, padre, I am only "child" to you in regards to your worshipness, not age!

Why do you keep Chinese people in the basement?

I've never touched the stuff myself. I only drink Cristal.  ;)

I've seen "XIII" locked up behind glass at Asian markets next to the other bottles of cognac marked "XO". I figured it was just the high-end version of the XO-grade.

Many glasses of Remy Martin XO.  [sm_beertoast] Didn't cost me a dime. Worth every penny, but probably much more than that. Chinese people in the basement, on the main floor, upstairs, etc. Total chaos. A good time was had by all. Gung hei fat choi, 'n' *feces*. Bless you my children (but not necessarily in age).

I beleive it's the year of the "Golden Boar/Pig".  Appearantly it's particuarly special and lucky year.

Strangely my mother was born in the year of the Pig, I was born in the year of the pig and my son will be born in the year of the pig... :D
