I'm pretty sure I've seen these doom and gloom stories in ALL of the major Mags and Papers for a year now.  Something special about this one, other than its provocative sub-title?  (I'm at work without time to read it)

Quote
Rosenberg reckons that higher energy costs—crude-oil prices are up 40 percent so far in 2008—are draining about $30 billion out of household cash flow per quarter, and that food inflation, running at a 9 percent annualized rate, drains another $20 billion per quarter. "So instead of the stimulus being filtered into real economic activity, it's being diverted into the checkout counter at Albertson's and the gas station," he says.

I see these numbers and then I think about the average wage increase, 3% - 5% per year, and it's no wonder it people are doing what they are doing.

But I also know things will settle out and growth will happen again. People do what they need to do to survive and buisnesses start to cater to that. If they don't they fail.

This one has a quiz.

You tricked me, I read the whole thing - no quiz.  [sm_devil] ;)

I did find some interesting things in it - things that are quite counter to what many bitch about here  [sm_devil] [sm_naughty]

But I really do not recall reading anyone (even the pollyannas) professing a quick recovery in the second half - I think he's creating an enemy where there isn't one in order to sound important or to lend drama to an otherwise tame story.  Terrorists, Micheal Moore, and GWB all do the same  ;)
