Not sure what side of the argument you're on.

This happens all the time and really bugs me.

And you, my dear bartender, who cracked open a $4 beer bottle, and handed me back my change entirely in a stack of one-dollar notes. Very subtle. As though the sheer bulk of that paper would deter me from putting it back in my wallet, and, defeated, I’d simply leave it there for you like a burnt offering on your sticky altar.

You deserve a tip, and I will tip you, but don't force the issue.

I was at a strip club once, and not even down at the runway or whatever you call it.  I was up by myself at the bar.  I ordered a beer and it came to $4.05.  Seriously?  So I give the chick 5 bucks, and said "Thanks."

No *feces*, she looks at me and says "Uh, thanks?"  As in no tip?  Thanks for the (only) 95 cents?  I about choked.  I said, all you did was (literally) reached down and handed me a beer.  I didn't make the menu prices or whatever reflected the charge with State and Federal tax, etc.  So I said "Fine, if you want this dollar I get to at least stick it in your panties."

I was asked to leave.  True story.   Un *fudge*in' believable.
