Title: Name That Tune
Post by: Uisce Beatha on January 09, 2007, 07:03:42 AM
Okay, we all know how this works.  I don't think we've had one here yet.  It's about time we do.  Especially since there are no grumps to tell us it's stupid.   ;)

I find myself in a state of confusion
Life's like a pantomime trick or a laser illusion
Where's a place that I can stay
Save me don't let me get lost in the ocean
I need your help everyday to control my emotions
In the darkness of these days

Possibly a bit tough for most/all of you but what the hell.   [sm_devil]

Yeah, maybe a bit tough for a forum of 25 regulars.   [sm_anon]

If no correct answer by 8:30 eastern someone just jump in with #2.

TURN IT DOWN YOU SAY,
WELL ALL I GOT TO SAY TO YOU IS TIME AND TIME AGAIN I SAY, "NO!"
NO! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
TELL ME NOT TO PLAY
WELL, ALL I GOT TO SAY TO YOU WHEN YOU TELL ME NOT TO PLAY,
I SAY, "NO!"
NO! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
SO, IF YOU ASK ME WHY I LIKE THE WAY I PLAY IT
THERE'S ONLY ONE THING I CAN SAY TO YOU

Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of bein' a king
And then became one
Well except for the names and a few other changes
If you talk about me, the story's the same one

But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I've tried, but it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
But I never cared for the sound of being alone

We're gonna blast our way through here
We've got to get together sooner or later

We have got to get it together now

Hope it's obscure enough.

I want the original artist on this one! the actual song writer

Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground
Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands
And some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand
And now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand
And some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers daddy's within earshot save the buckshot turn up the band

Sorry I waited like 15 minutes, doesn't look like any else wants to play, here's another and I'll be more patient.

When there's lightning - it always bring me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry for magic - I feel it dancing in the light
But it was cold - I lost my hold
To the shadows of the night

There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own

Do your demons - do they ever let you go
When you've tried - do they hide -deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You're a picture - just an image caught in time
We're a lie - you and I
We're words without a rhyme

This is right up Chin's alley.

O.k. I'll play a bit. Staying on the same street.

Lordy, I have loved some ladies and I have loved Jim Beam
And they both tried to kill me in 1973
And when my doctor asked me

There's one last line to the chorus but it has the title of the song.

Stone in love with you.

:bricks:  Got it on the clues.  I couldn't fine the cadence of the song.

Bingo! I thought it might have been a little too obscure.

But, I have an even more obscure one coming up. ;D

OK. Maybe you'll have a chance to answer it tomorrow. ;D

You say you're gonna leave, gonna take that big white bird,
Gonna fly right out of here without a single word
But ya know you'll break my heart when I watch you close that door
'Cause I know I won't see you anymore

Manfred Mann
That's who had the hit, but not the song writer.

Bruce Springsteen wrote the song.

Next!

 >:( >:(

I knew that!  You gave it away after one incorrect guess??!!

 ;)
Sorry I waited like 15 minutes, doesn't look like any else wants to play, here's another and I'll be more patient.

When there's lightning - it always bring me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry for magic - I feel it dancing in the light
But it was cold - I lost my hold
To the shadows of the night

There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own

Do your demons - do they ever let you go
When you've tried - do they hide -deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You're a picture - just an image caught in time
We're a lie - you and I
We're words without a rhyme

This is right up Chin's alley.

I step out for a while and then the Dio shows up!?! What the *fudge*?

I didn't get a chance to answer either. I stepped out for dinner.

Argghh.  I wouldn't have gotten it.  I only know the chorus.  Good tune. ;)

OK. No more songs from 70s unless it's more mainstream--like ABBA.

BTW, here's a funny clip from MST3K discussing the band's name.
