Title: week 1 heisman hopefuls watch?
Post by: Aske on September 02, 2007, 09:21:54 AM
obviously to early to really mean anything when most 'stars' and their teams are playing D1AA cupcakes.

henne, hart, manningham  out

mccoy had a subpar game

slaton, tebow, brennan, brohm,  had all star games as you would expect against cupcake opponents

everyone else a 'meh' pretty much

hey, i really like hart, and think he will make a great pro RB.  however, unless he breaks every single season ncaa rushing/scoring record this year, he won't get the heisman.  a heisman winner would single handedly will his team to victory over a 1aa squad  ;)

I would love to see UM run the table and sneak into (and win) the BCS National Championship game. How awesome would that be? They'd be declared BCS :airquotes: national champions :airquotes: but can't beat a 1-AA team.

Name ATT YDS AVG TD
M Hart 23 188 8.2 3

he doesn't play special teams, defense, or coach. he was the one guy on the whole team that managed to do his job. :)

that being said, the heisman is a popularity contest. ;)

exactly right, it's a 'pollster' like popularity contest.  and if hart's #'s don't DOMINATE everyone else's,  the award will go to the player on the more 'winning' squad.   let's face it  even if brennan has 10 more games like he had last night (36/40, 450 yards, 6 tds  or so in 30 minutes)  ....  booty on an undefeated usc team would probably get it before him.

Eric Crouch

Rashaan Salaam
Gino Toretta
Chris Weinke
Jason White
Ron Dayne

Charlie Ward...

Since about 1988 The Heisman has spent too many years in the dumper.  Pre 1988 - pretty impressive list of names.

Winning the Heisman ain't what it used to be.
