Title: Would you hire this guy?
Post by: hobbit on July 08, 2007, 06:40:58 PM
So, I'm getting marble tile in my main bath and got a quote for the work.  The contractor has been trying to talk me into going half way up all the walls with it (like wainscoting) as well, but I've been resistant.  So, here's the quote:

Code:
Floor Coverings- Remove existing bath fixtures and cap off
plumbing as needed. Remove existing tile on floor and remove
durrock, nails and screws, prep for new. Gut around tub, remove
all tile and soiled drywall as needed. Replace with green board
around shower as needed. Install new durrock on floor. Install tile
and grout per plan agreed between JT and Rick. Tile to go to
ceiling around tub and new tile on floor. Homeowner HOMO-NER
to provide tile. (optional 1/2 way up around perimeter walls of
bath with matching tile at no additional charge- an option that only
a complete *bunghole* would refuse due to an abject lack of class or
reason- but whatever you're the boss!).

I should mention - he's a friend of mine  ;)

Some friends redid their bathroom a couple of years ago.  The wife wanted to go halfway up the walls with tile, for maintenance reasons.  The interior design people said no, since it would make the bathroom look like a public restroom.

Then I wouldn't feel as bad about peeing on the wall.

screw the green board. it deteriorates pretty much like drywall. use 1/2" wonderboard on the walls in the wet areas. much more stable base, and more water and mildew resistant. trust me.

Only a complete *bunghole* wouldn't hire him.
