Title: Unethical Question.
Post by: stroh on November 03, 2007, 08:40:10 AM
You know, I ain't never been to colledge.  Every job out their requires a degree(alert the media).

My guess is, in the last 15 years, there has been at least 1 Mike Smith to graduate from The University of Minnesota with a BA in some BS.  So, what if I apply for a job, and say oh, yeah, I got a Bachelor's in Underwater Basket Weaving, graduated in '96.

What?  Are they gonna ask for my diploma?  If they call, and check, the dean will look in the records and say "Oh, yeah, here it is...Mike Smith.  Goofy *fudge*er, but yeah he has his degree"

I'm in like Flynn.  What do you think?

Now that I think of it, I bet there has been enough Mike Smiths roll trorugh there I could probably have my pick of any field I want.(That they did for me  ;D )

In all honesty, nobody would ever care enough to do that much digging unless you became CEO of the company in protestation by somebody else who wanted to bring you down. If you never reach such heights on the corporate ladder, how you might still get "busted" is if some fellow co-worker, who happens to be a legitimate "Gopher" of which I'm sure there are many in Minnesota (those damn rodents multiply like, well, rodents), starts asking you questions like: "Hey, remember when <insert some notable event> happened on campus back in '95?" or "Remember having to sit in those nasty chairs in <insert some lecture hall> during econ class?". So I would suggest using a school that nobody's ever heard of (e.g. Farmer's University of Central Kansas) rather than U of M.

Or you might want to read further into one of those "Earn Your Degree Online" spam messages instead of just deleting it.

karma cuz that's what would happen to me.

If my name was Mike Smith and I told someone that I gradiated from The U of Blah Blah in 96, they would check, and it would be the one year that a Mike Smith didn't graduate from that U.

God forbid that I'm the moral conscience of GolfHos but isn't honesty still the best policy?

Companies are doing a lot more digging than they used to. The last two companies I worked for made you sign a transcript release. That, along with your SS#, would make it pretty difficult to lie about your education.

If I was looking to try a move like this, I'd start here:

Really not worth the risk in my opinion...

Hmmmmmm, bomb-O.

Appreciate the quasi serious responses (in fact, I'm still trying to figure out Derion's)

Wasn't exactly  what I thought the thread was going to be.  'Sposed to be a satirical springboard...gleek kinda got a corner of it.

I was also thinking..
Michael W. Smith Christian music singer/songwriter
Michael Smith  writer ESPN
Michael Smith  artist
Michael Smith  Senior PGA
etc., etc.

Oh, well.  Not my best work.

I'll do better.

FWIW, when and if I do need/get a degree...I'll do it the Smith Barney (Houseman) way.

My point: find a college that has closed and say you graduated from there.  ;)

I guess the Farmer's University of Central Kansas wasn't one of my best efforts either. :sad3:
