There's a decent hotel in the Berkeley Marina, and three in Emeryville, which is little farther south.

Cool.  Let's grab a drink (or three).  I might be busy that Wednesday or Thursday, but I'll make time if we can't do it another night.  I don't know Richmond at all, but I agree with gleek that Berkeley has a lot of options.

Getting close.  Coming into town this Sunday.

I'm staying at the Super 8 El Cerrito.  Seems to be right next to the Bart station.

Plans?

Since you're near BART, I'm going to suggest we all meet up at Jupiter in Berkeley.

It's located right next to the Downtown Berkeley BART station, has a courtyard and fire outside if it's not raining,  and has a diverse enough beer selection to hopefully suit everyone:

It looks like Wednesday night is the worst for me.  Which night is best for you guys?  What time is your class over?

What's the weather like up there?

Interesting. What day do you leave?  The MacWorld Conference is Wed-Sat.  I'm probably going to do the conference party thing one of those nights if you're interested in having pretentious, asshat app companies pay for your beer.

What's the weather like up there?

Hard to predict.  Warm today, but cold and rainy a couple of days ago.  Nights are pretty much always chilly, and I often wear jeans and a fleece jacket.

Sweet!!!  Count me in.  I'm a great date at those kinds of deals.

I'm actually not leaving until Monday morning the 31st.

What time does your flight get in this Sunday?

That may be a good day just because traffic will be lighter.  (gleek might be taking BART, but I'll be driving)

I'll be up for crashing an Applehead party. Are they going to check if you're packing an iPhone before they let you in though? LOL

Title: Re: MMMOTI: Beer By The Bay Edition.

There may be a hiccup with the conference party thing.  This is the first second year that Apple has pulled out of MacWorld, so it looks like it's not going to be the circus it usually is.  There's usually a big list of parties by now, but that's not the case this year.

If that falls apart, I was going to suggest we just get together the Sunday before you leave and watch football.  But that turns out to be...the Pro Bowl....which would possibly make it the most pathetic MMMOTI gathering ever.

We'll soak some beers (ir)regardless.

How many days are you going to be here?

As dys suggested, Jupiter is a pretty cool bar with eats and a nice outdoor seating area.

If you want to shoot some sticks. We can try this place. http://www.thalassabar.com/

It doesn't look like they serve food, but they do have standard 'Merkan piss water: Koors and Bud Light.

Both are within walking distance from BART.

So it doesn't look like the conference party thing is going to happen.  There doesn't seem to be much going on.

Wednesday is out for me.  My most open days look to be:
1. Friday
2. Sat
3. Sun
4. Thu/Tue

He said he's not leaving until Monday.  I'm thinking that Saturday or Sunday afternoon might be best now.  We'll have more time and not have to fight traffic.

It's too bad the timing is off. In a couple of weeks, it's SF Beer Week.

One idea is this Winter Brew Festival in Berkeley on Saturday from 12-4:
http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/ontap

It's pricey ($35), but you get unlimited pours.

Hmm, this isn't as cool as I initially thought.  I thought it was at Aquatic Park by the bay, which would be a great place to hang out and drink beer.  But it's at a park in downtown Berkeley, which, while close to BART, doesn't have the same atmosphere.

I'll try to come up with some other ideas.

On the other hand...
Quote
Attendees can have as many beer samples as they'd like -- no tasting tickets will be issued -- but still won't try everything due to the sheer number of unique brews that will be available. The most recent list of confirmed participants boasts 31 breweries, all hand-chosen by people who know more about beer than most.

Participating breweries as of January 18:
21st Amendment Brewery, Ale Industries, Anchor Brewing, Bear Republic Brewery, Bison Brewing, Black Diamond Brewing, Blue Frog Grog & Grill, The Bruery, Drake's Brewing, Dying Vines Brewing, E.J. Phair Brewing Company, Gordon Biersch, Firehouse Grill & Brewery, Firestone Walker Brewery, Iron Springs Pub & Brewery, Jack's Brewing Co., Lagunitas Brewing Company, Lost Coast Brewery, Magnolia Gastropub and Brewery, Marin Brewing Co., Moonlight Brewing, Moylan's Brewery, Rogue Ales, Russian River Brewing Company, Schooner's Grille and Brewery, Shmaltz Brewing Company, Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, Stone Brewing Co., Sudwerk, Triple Rock Brewery, Uncommon Brewers.

LOL   ;D

I'm up for whatever.

Got out early so I drove the bridge loop including downtown today.(11 farking bucks in tolls? Great boogely woogely)  So I can say I did that.  Tough to see things and tougher to take pictures.  After soaking a few to clam my nerves from that ridiculous traffic (apparently the MN plates didn't give away the fact that I'm from SoCal and was more interested in taking pictures on my iphone while driving of the GG Bridge and Alcatraz than they were on commuting.  Assclowns.  *fudge* 'em.)
I think I'll jump on the train and ride back into downtown.  See if I can ride one of those rice-a-roni deals to say I did that too.

Wanted to take my truck up to the top of one of the hills and come screaming down Streets of San Francisco style, but again, to much hassle with people honking at me and flipping me off.  So, next trip I guess.

If I land right smack downtown, anywhere I should hit?

Got the chili cheese.  Overall it was good.

Tiny little joint where you are expected to know what you want and how to order.  I learned that quickly by the two people in front of me *goshdarn* it up and pissing off the Soup Nazi.  When it was my turn I went all Costanza on it.

The only thing I didn't think of was it being smothered lathered in chili so you have to eat it with a fork.  I don't like it that way.  I like to eat them like hot dogs.  I don't do any type of open face sand wedges.  Hate soggy bread.

OTT the dag was good.  I'd do it again.

This has had me chuckling all day. I didn't really mean to throw you under the bus, but now that I think back it was very much like that.

They've been in business for 70 years and they sell: Hot dogs, polish, and hot links. The *goshdarn* condiments are over there, and you figure that *feces* out on your own.

It's not brain science, and it sure as hell isn't 'Fine Dining'. It's lunch, or a quick supper.

Once you get the hang of it, you are definitely in. There are off menu items as well, which can vary by location.  The Hayweird one always had breakfast and linguica, and Union City/Fremont had chorizo.

Quote

I'm with you there, and the chili just wasn't that good.

I usually did just a couple of dawgs with kraut and mustard, or maybe a hot link to mix things up.

What I always thought was kind of neat about the place was that there isn't any really recommended way to do it, unlike Nathan's in New York where there's no ketchup or tomatoes anywhere in sight.

I'm curious: Was it busy? Back in the day, if you went between 11 and 1, lines could be out the door, at any location.

;D

I seriously did get a quick lesson in what not to do (to really piss off the hot dog lady) from the two in front of me.
But my order was pretty simple anyway.  I could tell she was pleased after dealing with the previous two.   ;D

Surprisingly it wasn't that busy.
