LOL.  To each his own I guess.  Just as long as it's not my shirt/keyboard.

You be careful out there Doctor.  You're gonna give people the wrong idea.   [sm_devil]

seriously though, at the risk of sounding culturally insensitive,  there are some realllly bad manners amongst these 'imported'  researchers/students

There are some bad manners among local folk too.

Unfortunately I for one can be guilty of such sins. :(

On a related note I have found that I am surprised by how people eat. I have worked with the same people for almost 8 years. Most of the time I eat in my cube/shop by myself. Once in a while I will either go out to eat with a group of people or we have food catered. Some people you think would be slobs are actually very neat eaters and vice versa.

I can be proper if I need to but most of the time I'm like "who needs a fork".

Cultural differences? Slurping of soup/liquids comes to mind from my travels in Asia. But at least half the food didn't wind up on shirts, et al.

Muffin/cookie: hands
Piece of cake:  fork
Brownies: game day decision

Typically manage to get everything in my mouth.  :)

It would never even occur to me to use a fork to eat a muffin.

(back when I worked in an office environment among other people)

Hands/fingers.  But I lean back so all the crumbs end up on my shirt instead of the keyboard.  After eating, carefully remove shirt, and fling crumbs over the wall toward nearest empty cube.

(now that I work from home)

Hands/fingers.  Dog collects crumbs.

So do you share an office with this dude?  Or did you walk by and see muffin remains all over the place?

Is this the same guy as Thermostat Guy or Microwave Guy?

Sounds like "thermostat replacement" guy needs a *fudge*in' beat down.  If that doesn't work, break his fingers and his jaw...It's much more amusing watching a gimpy handed *fudge*er who can't chew spill soup all over himself, than it is to watch some slack jawed yokel monkey-*fudge* a muffin.  Trust me on this one.

I think you should play the crazy card on him.  Erm, maybe I should say the crazier card.

Maybe start narrating your everyday actions under your breath using a Sarah-Connor-like voiceover ranting about Judgement Day, rise of the machines, testy microwaves.

Or you could try saying aloud everything you read or write online. ("HATE", "*fiddlesticks*offnowadays")

Or maybe show up for work one day wearing something like this:
