Title: PIT-STL Thu Night Game -- Spoilorz
Post by: Clive on December 20, 2007, 06:07:51 PM
Twenty minutes into the game and HOLY CRAP!  17-14, Roethlisberger with 175 yards and 2 TD passes.  Steelers defense seemingly unable to stop the STL attack.

So happy I can't get NFL Network.  :sad3:

Steelers jersey and bottle koozie.  Towel ineffective if I don't know which side of the field the Steelers are pointing toward.

The thing that stands out about PIT this year is their inability to make effective adjustments from first half to second.  On defense, they don't seem to be able to anticipate the changes in tactics that the other team will shift to (despite copious competitive research, one would think).  On offense, they just seem to come out and keep trying the same thing, maybe biasing more toward the pass or the run.  But no major shift, such as quick passes, more play-action, etc.

Looks like they're in the playoffs barring something weird.  Doesn't look like they'll be in them for very long, though.

Not if they get JAX although payback games have their own dynamic.

There's been a lot of talk re: division titles, Cleveland and Tennessee both on TV and in the papers.  Obviously that's the first order of business but I think nailing the third seed and hoping for Cleveland rather than the Jaguars in the first round is worth discussing too.

of course PIT matches up better on paper with CLE than JAX,  but i can't remember the last time a team beat another team 3rd time in a year (maybe my memory is bad)  usually those games go the other way IIRC

they cant make very many adjustments because they routinely get blown up at the LOS on both sides of the ball.  when was the last time you saw the steelers (against a good team) get pressure on the cornerback out of their base rush?   anyways, also on defense as well, they are stuck even more in their  schemes because they are playing 2-3 guys right now that have no business on an nfl field.
