Title: Jack in the Box Angus Commercial Post by: dystopia on May 25, 2007, 01:36:05 PM I'm not sure if Jack in the Box is a regional or nationwide chain, but if you haven't seen these commercials, they're very bizarre.
CKE Restaurants sues Jack in the Box over beef ads http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070525/bs_nm/cke_jackinthebox_dc_1 Quote LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - CKE Restaurants Inc. (NYSE:CKR - news), parent of the Carl's Jr. and Hardee's fast-food chains, sued rival Jack In The Box Inc. (NYSE:JBX - news) on Friday over new television commercials it says misleads customers into confusing CKE's Angus hamburgers with meat from a cow's anus. ... ... CKE argues in the suit that the commercials falsely imply that Angus beef burgers come "from the rear-end and/or anus of beef cattle by creating phonetic and aural confusion between the words 'Angus' and 'anus."' In one of the ads at issue, Jack in the Box's bubble-headed mascot, Jack, points to a diagram of meat cuts showing that sirloin comes from a cow's mid-section. A colleague asks Jack to point to the "Angus area" of the cow, and draws a circle in the air. Jack responds: "I'd rather not." In another spot, a group of fictional Jack in the Box employees laugh uncontrollably when a co-worker says the word "Angus" during a presentation about its competitor's burgers. Jack in the Box Plays Word Games http://www.adweek.com/aw/creative/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003588356 Quote In "Angus Diagram," Jack points to the sirloin on a butcher's chart when an exec asks him to find the "angus area." Jack, whose proboscis is pointed at the rear end of the cow, says, "I'd rather not." Sittig directed both spots. "They don't go too far," he said. "For example, we talked about but stopped short of doing a spot on [McDonald's] Angus Pounder." Sittig said the spots use of adolescent humor "is enough to turn you off to the idea of eating angus, but no more crude than a middle-school joke about the planets, or one planet in particular."
