Title: Quick...Need your help for this afternoon
Post by: Fuzzy on November 27, 2009, 10:39:54 AM
Wifey and I are talking about going to a movie, potentially sans kids.

The Blind Side
2012
The Men Who Stare at Goats
Pirate Radio

What say you?

And if it's with kids it's going to probably be "Fantastic Mr. Fox"

haven't seen goats yet but it looks good potential but possibly hit and miss
2012 was terrible, in a good way.
haven't seen the others....

paranormal activity isn't an option?  :P

I'm thinking the same about Goats. Paranormal is out - not her deal plus I am mixed based on reviews from friends.

I'm leaning toward Pirate Radio right now. I like Philip Seymour Hoffman.

What is this "sans kids" you speak of?  ;)

Best of both worlds.....an animation film I had not heard of, Planet 51, was playing at the same time as "Goats". Popped the kids in one theater and the missus and I were in the next.

And the hunch that Aske and I had was somewhat correct. It was different. Some funny stuff intermixed with some things to make you think. Casting was pretty good, especially with Bridges and Spacey. Kept my interest but thought the ending could have been stronger.

Kind of like the way the terrible dialog in Star Wars makes it hilarious?

Went to Blind Side with the entire family, sisters, mother, aunts, nieces--thinking about it, Blader Jr and I were the only swinging *8==>*s among the almost dozen plus of us who went---which should have been my first warning.

Highlights: Sandra Bullocks was definitely spankable if you are charmed by the ****y, dominant, multitaskable southern belle type and fantasize about doing her while she pecks away at her blackberry.

Lowlights: Other than that, it was a stupid story about an oversized negro from the projects who was befriended by well-to-do white alums from a piddling SEC school in a godforesaken state in desperate need of offensive line talent.  His comedic companion and best friend and alleged star of the film was the white family's minature man child, supposedly an earnest 6th grader but played by someone much older who has obviously been rendered a permanent pre-adolescent as a consequence of some tragic deletion of a vast stretch of his genetic heritage, an unfortunate chromosomal syndrome victim.

DO NOT go if you liked all the football scenes in Friday Night Lights because there are NONE worthy of note in Blind Side.

If I had to compare it to any other film, it would be to Terms of Endearment, except that nobody died.  Which was tragic because this film really could have used a touching death scene or something horrible like that.
